Nick McCabe, the most brilliant guitarist the world has barely heard of.

Throw William Reid in the conversation, too. And John Squire while I'm at it.

simon jones has got to be one of the all time great bass players, fucking hell simon was only about 20 at the time in 1993 and putting out some if not the best bass guitar lines ever.

Saw Verve a couple of times in these early years here in the UK.Often at the end of the set Macabe would walk across the stage and embrace Simon like a brother....magic to see

@@justinw6670 Same here, I got to see them good handful of times back in the early days. They were like nothing else around. They will always be my number 1 band.

@@ashleycrawford9863 Six O'clock is the song that gets me as a guitar player....awesome.Ive never learned it because sometimes songs loose their thing once you've cracked it (if you get what I mean)👍

This song is everything rock was supposed to be they mixed it all together blues, rock and psychedelics that's what it was about. They're the Greatest Rock Band of all Times.

What’s interesting is how blue and this song basically have the same bassline and rhythm, yet they manage to make these to songs sound so different

Wish I had seen The Verve back then.. I saw them in 2008 and they were brilliant musically.. Great performance but this is on a different level.

One of the Verve's most powerful songs which transformed in its live incarnation. The build up to the climactic crescendo is haunting and intense. Verve circa 1992-1993 were the coolest band of the decade. This era of the Verve was their psychedelic peak. Storm in Heaven was the high, Northern Soul and Urban Hymns were the inevitable crash.

what you get in dickie's eyes at 6.17 - a moment of intense clarity, then slipping back into what eye can only assume is an opiate haze. THAT sums up early verve. magical.

@Sincyboy I didn't hear Storm in heaven until 1997. And I regret I never got to see this era of the band. I don't think people realize how fucking good they were at this point in time. So unique and completely mesmerizing to see and watch.

They need to go back to their Northern Soul and Storm in Heaven style ASAP. Otherwise, they will just be another nameless band. Oh wait, too late. They're gone now and all we have is some experimental big band.
