Anubis is one of my personal favorites among the Egyptian pantheon, him and Bastet. However, during some research for an entirely different project, I learned that Bastet's older iterations actually had some crossover with Anubis, some modern depictions of the two even like to frame the two as being romantically involved in someway; Bastet was later broken up into the goddesses of Bast (which the modern era uses as a shorthand for Bastet) and Sekhmet. But by far, the god I think should be covered as soon as possible would have to be the god Ptah. Ptah is an interesting deity; he had worshippers almost everywhere and was often treated as a minor deity but was still incredibly important. Ptah was the Egyptian god of creation, and one of his nicknames was the "Unmade Creator" because he literally willed everything, including himself, into existence. Still, since he technically exists outside the realm of his own creation, he is defined as being unmade as a descriptor. That's right, his will was so powerful he literally created his physical form and the rest of the cosmos, including the original gods and progenitors of humanity. He was still treated as the primary deity for artisans and always had shrines in almost every city, but he was still relegated to Minor deity status. The funny thing about Ptah is that he doesn't care what mortal or the divine think of him; a simple thought from him can literally alter the fabric of the universe, so he has to practice restraint and keep very tight control over his mind to keep from dramatically altering the laws of existence as they have been agreed upon by the gods for the sake of those under their guidance. Nevertheless, Ptah's creative mind is responsible for the foundations of everything in the universe, seeing as he literally created all the materials of the universe and the rules that govern them, including their defining characteristics.
@Mixed_Activist Жыл бұрын
Christians stole from him real hard. He spoke words into being. The whole bible quote about the word being with god and is god blah blah blah is taken directly from one of his prayers. Psalm 23, the lord is my shepherd is an iteration of the hymn to Osiris. Christians although they don’t like to admit it (especially you catholics) are worshiping the same gods I do but don’t know it. And before you start trolling me, learn the hieroglyphs it is LITERALLY written in our faces THOUSANDS of years prior to Jesus. And also, early Christians started off in Egypt so it’s not surprising it’s the same story plagiarized .
@antonakesson Жыл бұрын
@@Mixed_Activist I mean the Egyptians took a lot of inspiration from the Mesopotamians too so it is not like they where entirely original either. It is not surprising neighbors traded religion, knowingly or unknowingly, with each other.

That’s true, the name Osiris is spelled to be pronounced “Aüsar” in The Egyptian Book of the Dead, which is a compilation of most of not all known mystical, spiritual and religious text from Ancient Egypt. I love ❤️ LOVE ❤️ the fact that it shows the text written in hieroglyphs, in modern phonetic pronunciation of those hieroglyphs, and in English below those two lines. It’s absolutely amazing. Egyptian mythology is my go to, and I'm glad you're starting with a heavy-hitter like Osiris (or Asar, if we're allowed to guess how his worshipers pronounced it). I also hope you go through all the gods that were listed in The Prince of Egypt's song: Playing With the Big Boys. If I could pick which god you talked about next, I'd say one of the gods that were closely linked to creation; such as Khnum (the ram-headed god), Kheper/Khepri (symbolized by the sacred scarab), Ptah (also a god of knowledge and wisdom), Amun (commonly known as the father of the gods), or Ra/Re the falcon headed sun god and overall king. Thank you for covering this. I wish you had mentioned some general time periods, and links to other myths this has as showing how much this predates the other myths shows how much it may have influenced the world that comes afterwards. You mention other gods as if they're contemporaries which certain historians did purposely to devalue the Egyptian myths when these myths predate those others by centuries/millennia. Thanks for this though, you do amazing work! You also used the later names for these gods which hides their influence on language. Well presented for a young audience. As you said most of these detailed written Egyptian myths about Osiris, Isis, Set and Horus were written by Plutarch. Plutarch was a post Christian/Peter/Paul philosopher, historian and priest of the Temple of Apollo. Most stories before Plutarch about Horus or Osiris are very vague or contradictory. I often hear these Zeitgeist fans that Holy Spirit, Mary, Jesus was copied from Horus....but in timeline of writing, the other way around is the only possible "coincidence" Plutarch was trying to breathe new life into old Greek pagan temples like his own. The Romans had become more and more secular due to absorbing more and more foreign cultures. He wrote most of his Egyptian god histories to sound very much like Greek/Roman pantheon. Horus was to sound very similar to Apollo.
