Sorry for replying before finishing the video, but PLEEEAAAASE watch the animated 2003 Sinbad movie, and never ever miss on watching a film because of a Rotten Tomatoes rating (not saying they don't make good points, but many movies that are poorly rated there are actually great, and as a Mythology freak I LOVED the 2003 animated film and thought the voice-acting was spot-on). Please please please watch and do a Revisited video!

I really love how diverse this channel is becoming. When I started watching Messed Up Origins it was mostly about Disney. Now we have so many different kinds of videos - the Arabian Nights, Greek Mythology and so on - he even made a video on a murder last week. I am really looking forward to seeing more stuff - especially stories which aren't very famous. Thanks to Jon I have learned more History than I ever did in school.

Shreyasi Mukherjee I was just thinking that the other day. I’m especially excited about the murder ones cause I think (and hope) he’ll talk about stories that aren’t very well known. Unlike the ones featured over and over and over on *EVERY* true crime channel on YT as well as constantly covered throughout A&D, Tru, Discovery, Oxygen, WE! and of course the ID channel (on regular ol’ fashion TV)

This week's video was a riot, I love how Sinbad never got deterred from going on adventures despite having a 100% crash and almost die rate. Also, I'm currently rereading the count of Monte Cristo and on the chapter called Sinbad the Sailor! What a cool coincidence!

You can just as easily say that Roronoa Zoro is never deterred from trying to become the world's best swordsman after taking a hit from Bartholomew Kuma at point blank range and then trying to pass it off as if nothing happened. This isn't even to mention his horrible sense of direction and always getting lost wherever he goes. Or better yet, Shanks got his arm ripped off and he is still an active emperor of the seas in the new world

Ah, yes. Claims he wasn't given all his wealth when that's actually exactly what happened every single time he survived by sheer dumb luck alone. Boat smashed? Everyone died? It's okay, Sinbad didn't die! In fact, he befriended the natives and their king immediately and was handed riches to take back home! Abandoned on an island? It's okay, Sinbad managed to somehow flag down a ship (as he is so capable) and it was *also* the ship that abandoned him earlier, what luck! Oh, they didn't sell any of his stuff even though they're merchants and thought Sinbad was dead? Strange, but since he's actually alive let's just give it all back to him so *he* can sell it all and go back home! Shipwrecked on an island of monsters? Well of course Sinbad survives! How? He just does, don't question it. Also, he finds random riches or another king he befriends immediately for no reason or robs the dead, who cares! The point is that Sinbad is so lucky and so rich, but he had to "work" for it first or something! These stories aren't very well thought out. The man inherited riches that he squandered, then set out on adventures where he was just handed new riches to replace his squandered wealth with even more than he had in each progressive tale. Not a very strong "work hard and you too can be rich" story if you ask me.

I didn't realize the animated movie had such a bad rap, I remember really loving it and was kind of excited for you to do a recap of it for this video. In any case, the first voyage IS referenced in the movie, in fact that kind of explains the island that turns out to be a giant fish…but the movie and this story have literally nothing else in common. Like, at all. Not even a little bit. In fact it's kind of weird… :\

It's got a bad rap becase it is only VERY LOOSELY based on the original Sinbad story. I'd have preferred to watch a more faithful retelling of those stories in animated form, though it might have been rather depressing, given how many people tend to die on the various voyages that Sinbad embarks upon.

Salaam Zahra Heydari My favourite piece of classical music is Scheherazade o.p. 35 by Rimsky Korsakov. My favourite classical stories are Laila and Majnun and Khosrau and Shirin by Ganjavi Nizami. Also firm favourites are Heer and Ranjha by Syed Waris Shah and The Myna from Peacock Garden by Naiyer Masud. But I must say that the 'translation' of Scheherazade by Sir Richard Burton' has made my wish to get a copy of the original with another translation. One thing I have noted is that in no way is this translation suitable for children. It is definitely PGA. I am also a bit scandalized by the seemingly free use of holy quotes intermingled with pure lascivious content which goes absolutely contrary to the Sharia of Islam. So once again I would like to know the source for this work and what the original actually said. Do you know where I can acquire a copy of the original. If necessary I can ask my husband to translate it for me. My husband is fully literate in Punjabi, Farsi, Arabic, Urdu, Pushtu and Hindi.

The thing I knew Sinbad from as a kid was from a 1973 live-action film called “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad”. I never actually saw the whole film, but I occasionally caught some of it on TV whenever it was on, without knowing anything about the plot or its Arabian Nights origins. I still haven’t seen the full film to this day.

Sinbad The Porter then left To join a crew on the ship to then die of scurvy a week later. Because Sinbad the wealthy man Was a tall tale Telling Titillating Talking Confidence man Who Actually gained all his wealth By taking a trust fund or from his father and then convincing all other rich people around him That his suits weren't cheap, His steaks were only of the finest Bred animals, And that building Huge temples with his name on them makes them worth even more. They believed he was a genius because he told them he was And could make them even more money by giving him their's. As a hobby he loved convincing poor people That they could either become as wealthy as him if they join the navy, Which he probably owns, Or that they should be content in staying poor because becoming rich Is dangerous And only for heroes of the highest caliber. Being that the whole line of adventures was told as a flashback from a Rich man I would more likely believe the latter...

I love the DreamWorks movie of Sinbad. I love most of of their older movies. One of my favorite characters is Eris The Goddess of Chaos, which I’m sure you can is the villain of the movie, because of her name and title. I think you should give the movie a try. Fun fact: “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas” was the last hand - drawn animated film DreamWorks did, because of the little money their hand - drawn animations were making, with the exception of “The Prince of Egypt.”

Burton's translation of the nights is not just uncensored, but exaggereted in the sexual aspects. He added content that wasn't in the sources he was translating from. There are more recent and accurate versions of the Sinbad story from René Khawam, Hussain Haddawy and Malcolm Lyons.
