Hi there! I am Jack Jahoda's first daughter born in 1968. He is the front person in this picture. He was blond and fair, just like me. This song was recorded when my Dad was 14 or 15 yrs. old, 5 years before I was born. This song is beautiful to listen to. The lead singer is great and the harmony so perfect! My Dad was one of the harmony singers, a higher voice, not the bass. I remember being a little girl and hearing some of my Dad's singing on the radio. Sadly, my father died in a horrific car crash in 1990, he was only 40 years old! He left behind his wife and 4 children. We miss him terribly every day, but hearing his music and voice is a gift that I will cherish forever.

Vibraharpie--great moniker to honor your Father. Nothing is easy these days. Your father's group was damn amazing. Harmony was tight and clean, lead was smooth and energetic, group sound was nostalgic but bright...You are so bright to expend some information, very personal, but poignant to some of us followers. I might have been overseas when these great Vibraniques finally got some radio attention. Thinking they never were accorded some proper big time attention even though they deserved some national video time. Vibraharpie CJM...thanks for some real information. Your Dad was probably singing as a Tenor or 2nd Tenor.

The Vibraniques were actually The Vibranique 5. Wayne Stierle abbreviated the name for our "Hey Boy" release. Three members were from the Vibraharps, Steve Paglierani, George Domenici, and myself, Dennis Ostrom, all from southern Rockland County, NY. The other two members were Mark "Flip" Folineo, and Louis Sanducci, both from northern Bergen County, NJ. We made an 8 song demo at Variety Studios in 1966, during a two week leave with George from the Air Force, and myself from the Army. Steve coordinated the entire rehearsal and recording session in those two weeks. "Hey Boy" has been the only song ever released or heard by anyone so far.

By the way, thank you Richie for showcasing Hey Boy, having it garner over 5000 views. This was the impetus for Steve and the guys (Dennis, Mark (Flip) & George) to get off our duff and release some of the material we did "back in the day". If you or any of your subscribers are interested, we are starting to upload slowly. You may visit "acappella boyz" by typing Way Aross Town - The Vibraniques.

I love this song performed with much heart and style, an acapella classic done to perfection. Up until a few months ago, when I discovered it ( this version of Hey Boy ) here, I carried it around in my head and heart for 50 years, having last heard it when I was 16. If you scroll down through the posts you'll find 3 years ago Stevie Dunham provided a short background history of the Vibraniques, which was followed 2 years ago by Dennis Ostrom ( dobluesky ), the lead singer of the Vibraniques who posted a more definitive history including the names of the members, where they hailed from, the recording date, etc. A recent posting presents an alternative narrative. Only one can be true.

I dig this stuff. A bit before my time, but I really enjoyed music that didn't come from a beat box. Live bands, trombone, oboe, acoustic guitar. I have to resort to listening to "oldies" because there really isn't anything new worth listening to. Oh except some country music. I never thought I'd say that.
