Dude i have a talking james by the fisher price brand from 2010 with “the face” i like, it still talks, and holds up, I checked on amazon for some prices, 168 dollars worth, im surprised it still works after almost 13 years, my parents bought it some time when i was around maybe 3-4, he was my favorite engine, im glad is have it. Edit: its the 2009 talking james, before mattel made the tender as small and james’s cab

How does the face size compare for the Hit Toys RC James or Fisher Price talking James to the original Tomy/Plarail James? I'm looking at a potential custom.

For a face swap of the Hit/FP RC’s or the FP talking James, you’d have to use a standard 2014 PLARAIL redesigned James’s shell, or a 2012 standard FP/ snow clearing James to accommodate the larger face.

You know, I do remember one more model of James from the HIT era, it was released in 2008 or 9 from a set called "James works it out." That is a standard motorized James with the face from the RC and talking models.

I suspect that 1994 James is from at least 1995 - the 1994 produced ones would have been made in Japan and say so on the bottom, and would have the hard plastic tender connector also seen on the 1993-1994 made in Japan Henry instead of the softer rubber one that one appears to have. I believe the plastic faces were introduced around 2003. Those Talk n Action James are very finnicky, very cramped inside and even if the electronics are OK I find the cab roofs like to have the corners snap off. Not to mention how hard it can be to find a US one! As always, there are a few other incredably minor revisions, the 2003-2014 Plarail James would have had the tender connector change from white to black in the mid 2000s, and in the 2010s the middle wheels changed to being press fit to help avoid the side rods fouling on the axle caps (the 90s original had hammered flat axles that also avoided the issue, the axles with "cap" redesign messed it up).

I’m fairly sure that there is truly no such thing. There is no packaging that solely says HiTToys on it without also being labeled TOMY, and no version of him with HitToys stamped on the bottom, though there are two different variations of the TOMY logo from his first and second releases.
