What a moving, nuanced film. Mark like so many of us let his inner demons ruin the most important thing in his life. When he received the bad review could see him start to lash out at the person who loved him the most instead of draw comfort from her and be a united front. Ultimately the thing that he didn’t want more than anything (kids) was the reason he lost the love of his life. If they reconciled it would mean someone would have to compromise and not be totally happy in the relationship. And that would cause further resentment down the line. Relationships are complicated and sometimes love is just not enough of a reason to stay together.

Sweet. It's a shame that people tend to hurt themselves by giving up love. I could feel the love between Mark and Gillian and the pain of separation. Excellent acting.

Like love in the material world is always mixed with pain. Anyone looking for pure love 100% smooth as silk is looking for water in the desert. That being said, even separation doesn't have to be permanent just because of the hills & valleys.

But how will one grow??????? Not all the time people are thinking rationally especially coming from a horrible childhood (probably the worst and hardest pain to fight). Not everyone grew up eating cookies with family while watching a movie together on a Friday night. Just like the food critic said, he has grow, he has to learn. No pain, no gain.

@@SEXgoddess. In order to grow one doesn't need to experience pain. However, if one experiences pain as a child, that should be taken as a lesson as the child becomes an adult. I disagree with the slogan "no pain, no gain". I'd say "No experience, no gain". Everyone of us is searching for love and when one finds love, which is mutual, one should never let go.

Excellent acting from the character Mark, and a very thought provoking script. The depth of their relationship was perfectly captured in the script. I felt Mark's pain when he told her, he hasn't gotten over her, every night he calls her name. How beautifully painful their love was.

I love the way the Director uses a bench conversation to tell the storyline. With that being said, communication is key in relationships. It's difficult to have a healthy relationship when people are processing life/childhood traumatic events. Fear will keep you from recognizing and accepting authentic love. Also accepting and respecting the work of your significant other. When you both want to be together, you have to work through the process and do the hard work. To carry someone in your heart for two years that's a long tine. Great chemistry between the actors.

Well said. It was a deal breaker when he disrespected her work. Because it indicates he doesn't take her in fully in his heart. He treated her as an outsider whose work ruined things for him when he should've at least defended her work against that article and took the blame for himself had he had enough dignity in him, I thought it was deeply disappointing and rude. When She defended him very hardly against the article ... I guess she just found out she wasn't in there for him. In his heart i mean, Truly and strongly as she had him. Although he had his share of troubles, it was no excuse for what he said. I don't know about trauma. But i wouldn't go this far up for blaming someone you supposedly love at that level. It's like he never believed in her or her very essence which is her work and what she does and what she has built herself for. He also supposedly liked the design at first. Was he not being honest or did he just lack the vision and so he took what the critic said with great importance( BEING the critic & the expert who knows better) .. I guess he just didn't know better what a good design is like and so the critic was a big deal for him that he had to finally yell it out at her. Heart breaking to be honest. It must have crushed her along the pregnancy part. It was deeply disheartening. Nonetheless for his part of things, i acknowledge his struggles and that hopefully this opens his heart a little to be more compassionate and let people in.

What a thought provoking movie. There are many people effected by their childhood which can sometime make relationships in their adult life difficult.. From an elder, this was a clean, insightful, and reflective movie of life choices, life regrets, life mistakes, and life regain. It dealt with issues and choices and decisions of a relationship, absent of profanity and sex. It was sensual, not sexual. From an elder, this is sometimes how life treats us as we walk our life journeys.

Great movie, well acted. The deep psychological effect of a failed father son relationship can last a lifetime. I wish Mark had snapped out of his pity party of resentment and worked more on self-love. Appropriate therapy would have helped, but I guess they didn’t have the right support to realise or access that. Under the circumstances Gillian made the right decision to move on. Her new man was confident and supportive.

It was really sad seeing him sit on that bench by himself on such a sad day - especially after knowing what has just been shared about his childhood before this. I like the ending - someone that's here, someone that is similar somehow (kitchen passion) and someone to talk to to contrast the aloneness and loneliness on the bench and near the crashing waves...and the void that ambitions (top chef of his town) still cannot fill and will possibly never fill. Yeah, I loved the ending - very close to real life. I loved the smile in the end!😌🙃✨ Thankful it did not end on the note that he was one of the top chefs of his town and that sight of him standing near the crashing waves on his own 👯.

This was something different and very good. I stayed up way past my bedtime because I couldn't break away without coming to the end. Kellen Garner has produced a great movie with subtle lessons for us all. The main lesson I gained was that given a bit of time, there's always someone else to fill that most important part of our life. That's the way it was intended to be, rather than us pining away and wasting our lives regretting what might have been.

I'm just going to be honest and say this I know why I watched the movie I was just curious but I must say I want to give props to the actor the directors writer whol put this movie together I thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of people said they didn't like the ending but I think it was very good ending. Because for me it was like those two were not on the same page there was love there but there wasn't any communication at least no meaningful communication she assumed probably one day that they were going to get married and have kids and he did not even want kids. He had a lot of baggage that he hadn't even unpacked yet. She had baggage too but it seemed like she had learned how to deal with hers better than he had so she was in a better place than he was. The scene about him not being able to catch up with her was very insightful. Sometimes people come into our lives to teach us some lessons and then they leave although they leave we do keep them in our hearts. Silence is not golden and communication is the key that unlocks many doors.

Excellent film. They are a beautiful couple, and one day, farther on down the road, they will come together again. Their love affair never really ended. To mend her wounds, Jillian went to the guy who wanted a child with her, so Mark could only go to the woman who already had a crush on him...but they still wanted each other. Rebounds seldom work out in the long haul, when all the confetti has settled...

A very good slow burner but worth staying to the end. The actors were excellent in their roles. This is the type of film that a mental health agency would show us as training for discussions. I feel Gillian was impulsive in many ways, and was part of her avoidant style. Mark had deep seated anger that held him back. His sterile white cold apartment...what a metaphor for his life. As many have said they both had family issues that affected their relationship. Will they ever heal? Maybe future life decisions would enable them to. Part 2 would be nice.

Excellent movie sometimes we bring baggage our parents and family members put upon us when we were just innocent little children. We don't don't know how to get rid of all that baggage when we become adults this why alot of times, all of this extra baggage leads us into trouble especially today. She wanted to be a designer but like her Dad she liked to argue and was very opinionated. The young man having growing up with his Mother and Father both being addicted, was afraid to be tied down he went for the only thing he knew that he could be good at. Being a Chef like his Dad. Either way we have we have to believe that God 🙏 is going to work it out 💯

Gutted, with a pained heart. Im perplexed, so many emotion are conjuring in my little head. This hit home for me, in a different sense as an avoidant and aromantic, but with a habit of being a naive and hopeless romantic when it comes to films. I was here for a happy ending and reality slapped me right across the face. im utterly gutted. For one the couples chemistry was spell binding, they initial encounter was alluring feeding the fasade of love at first sight. Ohh the naviety, this was not some fairy tale. And yet it was mark's eyes that lead me a stray, the eyes of a man in love and gillians introspective insights on the man he wanted to be, how she saw him for who he was. The recipe for a well cooked romance. Ah but humans are never that simple and easily create problems, and past traumas build insecurities when they are none. Both gill and mark are guilty of this. These characters were as faulty as they come . And lack of communication, and honesty sealed there fate But the ending🙀😡😡 i cant i just cant with the ending, especially that nonsense about gillians closure. She knew what she was doing the moment she ended that relationship. I mean she came to the funeral with the guy and a pregnancy bomb to get closure, what more closure does she need. She already moved on, she didnt need to come no matter what her reasons, she gave that man false hope ( and she knew it would, but came anyway becoz.she only wanted to resolve her feeling, her guilt for still loving him whilst in a new relationship and expecting a baby. (Im probably project ing😶) I mean I get the message of the film. But i just want to live perpetually in the 1st phase of this movie😭.

This movie was so good. I wish the couple would have had discussions about what they wanted out of life with each other. Talks about having a family ect... you take the time to want to know a person but these kinds of questions don't even come up?? I wish Marc would have gotten therapy to help heal what he was feeling about his dad. But I'm glad that he went to say whatever he needed to say to his dad even though his dad couldn't respond. I think that would have broke me to see Jillian after two years and she be pregnant. But I do hope that they found what they needed in the end. We can force people to be a match for us. But our perfect match is out there.

This is the type movie I wish there would be a part two, twenty years later. I did see a show the girl was in college got pregnant they were really in love. She gave the baby up for adoption because of her parents. She finished college they both married other people his wife died or they got divorced. She married and her husband died or they divorced. She looked the man up and they started talking and they found the daughter she gave up for adoption. They got married and his and her children from their previous marriages made a big family for them.

I enjoyed this movie; it is an inspiring romance that is not pretentious. Mark's life is a bit of a mystery which adds interest to the story. The character Gillian is beautiful, wise, and talented. Mark and Gillian discover things about themselves during their relationship which cause them to grow apart. The story is realistic and bittersweet; life doesn't always turn out the way we want. If we are honest with ourselves, we will learn and grow from our experiences. Gillian is a strong and mature woman, which I admire; she is not led by emotion, but Mark on the other hand is a bit insecure and still trying to find himself.
@boxesbinslidsllc
@boxesbinslidsllc Жыл бұрын
I would say Gillian had her own doubts as Mark tried to encourage her to start her own firm. She felt dwarfed in her Father's presence needing to live up to his expectations. She did allow her emotions to get in the way over the pregnancy. His response was trauma based, and she never took to time to clarify why he felt that way and would he always feel that way. Even though nearly two years later she's pregnant, she's not happily pregnant. She's on the bench seeking answers. The story would be entirely different if she started her own firm.

Love is indeed messy!....as I viewed the movie, I thought: wow!...here's the making of an honest and exciting romance. Apart from Mark's childhood issues, I think what messed things up, or rather, what became the turning point was his reaction towards the negative pregnancy test. After that the relationship just took a nose-dive for the worst. So sad...smh!... I really thought Mark and Gillian were good together. Interesting enough, I felt Gillian's courage to continue her quest for love...the bravest thing!...or was it a hasty decision...idk!...and though it would have appeared that she had in fact, moved on physically because of her 'pregnancy', that final encounter at the park bench was her departure mentally, emotionally and psychologically. The movie thankfully didn't end there. I was happy that Mark found love right under his nose...surprise, surprise...lol!

The ending was so disappointing! Those two were made for each other. Jillian never gave Mark a chance. He truly loved her. I found her quite selfish, running off, getting involved with someone else, getting pregnant, drops the news in his lap and walks away. Selfish!!! She walked away when she found out that she was not pregnant by Mark, after he expressed relief. She could have at least tried to work out their emotions together. The worse part is that she never communicated with Mark for two years, arrives at his dad's funeral, and splits again. Selfish!!! A good movie with terrible parts but maybe this is life!!!

*** SPOILERS *** She wanted a baby one day and he never had that desire. He was the first to say something hurtful when he was hurt by the review. He wasn't mature enough to not fall back on blaming and criticizing her. She did not say anything hurtful like that to him. Would she have ever resorted to saying something rash and hurtful like that to him? We don't know but because of his verbal and crushing attack in saying to her "Oh yea, if you are such a good designer why did you get fired?" Then later, "You've done enough...", the relationship took a spiral, downward plunge. It became an emotional mess from which they did not recover, even though at one point she was willing to forgive. Then she saw the light... As it often is in many relationships, she moved on. She showed that she was emotionally separating from him by applying for a job in another city and accepting it when it was offered to her. She had already realized that he was not the man for her. She was already pregnant by another man even while he was pleading with her to listen to and get back with him. Even though he KNEW they were mismatched about having children and the importance of a decision like that, he wanted to selfishly sweep that under the rug and keep her clinging to him as he was clinging to her. I too wish it would have ended romantically but they would have had to be 2 different people than they were. As they were, he would have made her unhappy.

He looked like Mark, spoke hurtful words, his dad was not there for him, he had a rough childhood. Do you know I always felt I could fill that love he never got as a child… so I over loved, we both worked so hard and bought houses etc… in the end, I realized I couldn’t fill that well….nothing was good enough… or even enough. only God could fill in for that Father gap. It brought realization to make you think about life in general that happens to real people but if you don't have the Holy Spirit of God to give us the wisdom of heaven instead of the wisdom of the world which can causes to be discombobulated throughout ours destiny without the holy spirit of God we can never move on with selfishness and our own ambitions hurts everything and the agenda that we participate in causes us to fall and miss the real destiny that we may have for ourselves and for others that were involved let us learn to have that agape love and die to the flesh that's so easily beset US. Shalom let us repent and get back the love that we should have had or still there Open door with the both of them that is just like real life we can step back in and change that format and humble ourselves and bring it back into reality and really speak from the heart. Nevertheless some of us Always has pent up Anger, but due to whatever reasons, neither has the Tools to get past them and then we are Adults. It breaks my Heart, but I so enjoyed it. Also in closing, I think they both were Broken, and could not connectively get past that Brokenness. Thank u so much for sharing, I do Appreciate it, great job!

What a beautiful love story. Glad of the ending, he wouldn't be bitter or sad after all.

Unknowingly how to love someone is not alway the fault of the person but the way he or she was raised projected to how they show affection .

Just wow! I would like to see more love story movies just like The View from Here. Doree Seay is a natural performer actress, and so serious. Well done! Bravo!

I agree on both of them they made everything so real. It makes you think about what you go through in life to me it can go with being a believer in Christ. Going to the Holy Spirit and ask the Holy Spirit give me wisdom discerning my heart and the decision that I make that I'm about to lose out on everything that I see that you have brought a reality into my life but we let our selfish ambitions destroy the real motive of our destiny that will brought us a long way to other people's life and say how did you guys do it how did you make it through that is the question mark that all of us have to obtain and to say holy spirit of God I need your help I don't want to lose what I have and know that you have placed before my face. Knowing that in the real life this does happen but let me stop in my tracks and let this change take place give me a humble heart and to realize on both of our parts that we're about to make a mighty mistake we have never seen before. Step in Holy Spirit for you live within the midst of Our lives show us the way for now is the way without you we can do nothing but our own flesh can cause us for headlong out of destiny seek ye first the kingdom of God and all that you ask for and what the heathens right about it will come but see first experience of the Holy Spirit and his wisdom and understanding his depths his heights his thoughts are higher than our thoughts in his way is so higher than always SHALOM 🙏🏾💖🎶🌧️👑 to All.....

I have never chosen a restaurant based on so-called critics opinions. I choose based on the lines of people waiting to get in, and my tastebuds. Every person is individual as is their taste, likes and dislikes. It’s OK to give your opinion but to make or break a restaurant based on your personal tastes, that has never worked for me. And why are SOME so cocky and obnoxious? Because chefs so scared we make them into gods instead of treating them like every other diner. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
