It's so fun seeing new players get suckered in to the "YOU THINK THAT'S FAST? THINK AGAIN." mechanic of the game. The insight, the ghost playback, the hint, and the BAM LEADERBOARD WITH YOUR FRIENDS YOU'RE THE SLOWEST DO BETTER just works. The devs were cooking with the competitive nature of all gamers, and I love and hate them for it.
@Winasaurus3 ай бұрын
The 'insight' is probably the absolute best way I've seen any of these games handle their push to improve players. So many times either I'd see a cool route and the game would confirm it with the insight markers after restarting, or I'd be baffled and have it hinted to me so I actually felt motivated to push for a better time. Got a good few red medals on the routes I thought were particularly good and fun to grind, platinum'd everything else. 100%d it as well since even Hell rush was good fun. I think that SEUM would be at least 10x better if it had something like that. So many times I see a level and have no clue what I should be doing, and then I click on the leaderboards and it's a guy hitting pixel-perfect frame-perfect shots through gaps I can't even see to beat it in 1/10 the par time which doesn't give me any more knowledge. Also SEUM would be better if they made the audio settings actually affect the torches so I don't go deaf every time I go near them but that's separate.

The writing of Neon White is so holistically and intentionally cringe that it’s actually really well done for what it’s trying to do. It’s such a love letter to the alt/emo “outcast” culture of the generation growing up in 00’s. The kids who grew up on those “cringy Japanese cartoons” and “it’s not a phase mom” bands. If it wasn’t written to be so over the top in its pursuit I could totally have seen young tween me thinking it was unironically the coolest thing ever. I honestly think people shouldn’t treat the writing like it’s this “unintentional black spot on an amazing game”, because it’s actually just an amazing game with a framing/theming we don’t see very much of. Embrace the cringe and try to appreciate its goals, otherwise your surface level engagement is what is revealed to be the actual cringe.

Fr like I don’t get how people miss this. Like the whole point is that the main cast are simultaneously edgy mercenary badasses but also complete goobers and sincere dorks about their special interests. And like, they spend all this time zipping around heaven and mowing down demons and looking cool and feeling cool doing it, and then you get slapped in the face again with that mask colliding with the person underneath it. The protagonist is a total weeb, whose obsession with katanas is so immense that it is literally deemed a defining aspect of his soul, and so he is assigned what is hands down _the least useful weapon in the arsenal_ and is still _sincerely stoked about it_ . It’s almost like people will just call anyone behaving slightly outside a narrowly defined norm “cringe” for the sake of seeming cool and edgy, when really the only thing that does is make it more difficult to appreciate things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He actually got close to deleting his entire online presence because of it, but he ended up settling on just taking a break from streaming to concentrate solely on the video until it’s done so he can move past it. I had the ps5 WR on the last couple levels. The big optimization he was missing in the last one was saving a Godspeed dash for the very end to save like a second and a half of air drift after you hit the barrel. You have to shoot one of the blue guys up top and make some longer snipes on the other enemies too but it’s a fun route.
