The viral ultrasonic cleaner for fruit and vegetables, does it work?

I own an industrial ultrasonic cleaner, I love to use it for veggies that are like very hard to clean, things like Bok Choi and its great for absolutely stripping dirt off potatoes if you wanna make potato skins or baked potatoes, it's also just generally a great tool to have around the house, if you get something that'll stain on clothes u can submerge them in it (BEFORE WASHING THEM) and it'll usually shake the stain out, it can also remove Permanent marker from most surfaces. Technically theyre meant for automotive stuff but they are a great multipurpose appliance for the house too, mine is 6Ls which is a bit overkill for small fruits but for its great to have the utility of that much space.

can you please test a theory and run it again without any veggies in clean water? If you still get gunk either your water is bad or the unit is what is giving out the gunk. It will tell you if it actually works.

Since you didn't rinse anything before using the machine, how do you know that any of that residue wouldnt' have come off with a simple rinse? is this the same as an ozone machine?

For sure, I just wanted to see if it would work if I’m gonna wash them but no since that thing. But to be honest, it broke after like a month so I’m going back to just cleaning my fruit and vegetables regular

There are ultrasonic cleaners used to remove oil and lubricants from machined metal parts, but I have no idea if this would be useful for something that is flexible.

how do you know if it worked or not? fruit floating around in water will lose gunk anyway..... so a colander and a good hard rinse in the sink under the tap would dislodge anything most of the time.

Next time use use distilled water. Or at least filtered water. It makes a huge difference

Yes and the tap water becomes brown as it chemically burns off the sodium salts and minerals in the water. It’s not from the fruits

The dirty water doesnt necessarily come from the fruit but from the machine burning off the tiny bits of salts in the tap water. If you did the same in osmosis water (salt free) you might see that the water doesn’t become dirty.

Nope- have one of these, and since I’m on a well, only drink RO water. The water is full of crap after using even with the RO water. A few months ago, I was given a case of 12 individual packs of blueberries. I used my machine to wash them- I dried then repackaged them and gave a bunch to both my kids. My daughter commented on how “scary long” they stayed fresh. She said it was probably some kind of voodoo and bought herself a machine. I use mine every day and my produce stays fresher for much longer.

I just got the same one and am rn using it on some potatoes (5)… the water was clean but wasn’t after a while. I then replaces the water again to see what happens and well, not many floaters but the water still is dirty as it’s not clear anymore…🤷🏽 I’ll keep using it

Would it be just as effective to spray the produce with the sink sprayer? What about the produce sitting in the dirty water after being cleaned by the ultrasonic cleaner? Would that be backwards, per se?

Yes to all and honestly this worked but died 2 weeks later. I tried it for the hype it was given but in end I go back to cleaning them normal now

Could we see sieved water afterwards? If still clear water it doesn't work!

You should use a TDS meter on the water

That isn't dirt. It's probably the preservative and wax coatings used on produce. I just hope it doesn't remove the essential oils from the produce as well.

Are not most packed fruits and veg washed prior to packing, this seems like a gimmick to me, as you can give them a quick rinse they should be fine and ready to eat.

I live in Strawberry country. The vast majority of berries are not washed, they would start degrading. They grow them on top of a white fabric to keep them off the dirt.
