What a great story. To properly appreciate the A10, you must be an 11B under fire. As a 24-year veteran, I have nothing but respect and love for the pilot and aircraft.

The only thing missing was the sound of the A-10's gatling gun at the end of the video. That would have made it a perfect 10 for 10!
Great story. I was choking up a bit there. We humans may anthropomorphize our machines, especially our war machines, but I swear sometimes the weight of history rolling off of them sometimes is a genuinely tangible and audible thing.

I very much like the story, and I love the concept of weapons of all kinds having voices, sentience, and even personalities. I thought this story was well written by the author. I also liked the idea of different types of personalities for different aircraft and the way that concept was fleshed out and presented. The F-22 is not an aircraft to be taken lightly, but the idea of a prima donna F-22 was a perfect counter-point to presenting the A-10 personality as an older, very experienced and grizzled warrior, fiercely loyal to the grunts he was tasked to protect and not a warrior to be trifled with at all! I would love to see this story fleshed out into a continuing story arc and series if possible. A pissed off sentient A-10 defending it's own! Wow! I'm not a writer,, but if I may offer a storyline suggestion for possible future stories please. If the A-10 was such a complex weapon that it could also reach back into the dwarf's mind, perhaps it reached deep enough to also discover, without the dwarf realizing it, the secret of how to contact it's own pilot and later did so. There are many recorded instances of pilots having a special affection for their aircraft. If the Council later ignored the dwarf's warning and went ahead and attacked Earth, now that would be an awesome storyline with endless story thread possibilities. A deeply enraged A-10 with it's but dedicated and professional pilot, operating as one, as man and machine rose to defend the grunts from invading forces. I envision the man and machine relationship to be something along the lines of a dragon rider. But regardless, an excellent story, unique concept, and well told. I just hope this is the opening story in some type of a series. I would love to read more!

This sounds like the start of the Anime G.A.T.E. Where a fantasy world finds a gate to the human world in Tokyo. And sends an invasion force. Which were quickly wiped out by local police before the military decided to move into the gate and setup in the fantasy world

The F-22 is the noble knight. The A-10 is a grizzled veteran. The B-2 is high-octane nightmare fuel, an assassin you never see coming. The B-52?

That dwarf better be glad it didn't touch some of our other machine spirits, especially those of the army, navy, or the navy's crazy little department of Jarheads*! (Silly autocorrect) Wonder what would have happened if he touched USMC vehicles?

Bravo!!! More of this type please! Just consider taking the Dwarf Listeners to a WW2 museum and let them listen to a Spitfire, Mustang, M4 Sherman, Panzer 4, etc. Then visit a WW1 museum and listen to the Grand Daddies of them all. A MK I tank or a Sopwith Camel. Then take them to visit the Battleship Texas and then maybe the USS Iowa with a pit stop at the USS Yorktown CV-10.

What would that dwarf do meeting an SR-22 or a B1 with a nuclear payload? The SR-22 would be justifiably arrogant with its altitudes and speed. The B1 would terrify with its potential, not just actual armaments.
