Love the Voiths, those sound epic. They're mostly even louder than the engine itself lol. The local bus company in my town used to have old MAN SG/SÜ240's up till they got sent to scrap in April this year. You could hear them coming a mile away. Thankfully we've still got Lion's Classics and old Conecto's that use Voith gearboxes, so the old sounds aren't completely gone to waste :D

I live in Kent and I’ve been on many buses with Voiths and I’ve always loved how they sound, particularly on the double decker Volvo B7TL buses (in fact those make me feel very nostalgic)
@LN661810 жыл бұрын
The slight rev when the bus stops is due to 2 mechanisms: 1. Auto-neutral & 2. engine idling speed control. When the bus engages in gear, the engine rev drops because of fluid resistance in the torque converter, then the idling rev is restored because the computer automatically adds throttle. When the bus stops, it shifts to neutral automatically, so the engine revs higher because the fluid resistance from the torque converter is lost, and as a matter of compensatory response, the computer reduces the throttle and lowers the engine rev back. That's why we hear the engine revs for a very short while when the bus stops. Depending on the engine type, some engines revs longer or higher when the auto-neutral is triggered, while some do not have such a rev control (e.g. the DAF engine in early examples of DB250) and one would just hear the engine keeps at a higher rev in neutral gear, and just revs lower when the gear engages. And actually one would hear this also happen in ZF gearboxes, just that the Voith examples are much more easily heard because of the gearbox whine. :D

Actually it's the modern ZF box that puts more strain on the engine because it uses so low revs with minimal oil pressure. Engines don't like to be lugged like that. Voith is better for the engine, better at getting going and stopping with its extraordinary retarder.

The VOITH will put strain on say an E200 4.5L Cummins ISB engine but won't hinder the 8.3L ISC, Man's or really anything larger than the 5.9L ISB fitted to some Super Pointer Darts. The VOITH can actually be a very efficient application as a 3 speed for town workings and a 4 speed for more rural services. If set up right they can be massively better than a ZF Or Allison, it depends on the type of vehicle and engine and the vehicle setup. Voiths are generally reliable as they tend to last longer than any Allison and some ZF's. Don't be so negative towards VOITH DIWA gearboxes as they can be smooth and efficient, dependent on the setup and application. Let's ignore the Voith Streetlite and Voith E200 MMC's as they are buses with small engines and the application is all wrong for this equation, but VOITH gearboxes are very good in many ways.
@Biigfish559Ай бұрын
100% right on it's unsuitability for the E200, shockingly sharp retarder and jerking, horrible buses. Rode on my first ZF (?) one a few days ago, far smoother.

0:43 Hey, the revs arent confirming the bus has stopped them revs happen because the gearbox automatically switches to gear 0 to save fuel when bus has stopped and 1 to drive again. When it revs up and down that means ur in gear 0 (or neutral if that's what you wanna say) if it goes down then up its either in -1 (aka reverse) or 1+

I have a voith in an Olympian attached to a Gardner. Lovely sound but it has a gear change problem. Takes forever to go into top gear, unless I flick the ignition switch off and on quickly. I'm certain this is an electrical problem because it changes up the second I flick the ignition off and on again. It also struggles on take off from standing... Seems to be stuck in second gear. And same cure, flick the ignition off and on and were away in take off gear. Looking for clues in the wiring is a nightmare. Has anyone come across this before.? Thanks. New sub. Old bus owner.

That's weird.. I know nothing about wiring currently but keep working with the bus and look for research online. Make sure there ain't any damaged wires or dirty filters on the bus. You can do it bro and I'm sure in the future you will get your bus working great.
