The Voyage of the Black Madonna (Alessandra Belloni and I Giullari di Piazza)

Lucia Chiavola Birnbaum’s “Black Madonnas” introduced me to this work. And I’m particularly grateful to Alessandra Belloni for this special work of art. I find interesting her introduction to what led her on her quest for black Madonnas because it coincides precisely with my curiosity since my youth as I was born and raised in Moiano, home of the Madonna della Libera. I never could accept the legend of our black madonna that I was told as a child. And as an adult, I was helped by Luciano De Crescenzo’s theory of the possible connection of Isis and the cult of the black madonna in Campania. I’m thrilled that Ms Belloni is devoted to our Madoona della Libera and that she has returned to my hometown many times for the feast. Thank you for this publication and performance.
