I remember seeing the show on first broadcast; the mechanical displays became a regular feature (and soem of them were very clever, and got increasingly sophisticated presumably as popularity and therefore budget grew). I remember that the first one, the electric PussyBoots cat, had my whole family in helpless laughter for the next ten minutes. We were .literally crying. But you'v emissed out the one of the Christmas special, the flashing Santa: "Hohoho have I got a suprise for you!". It's supposed to open it;s arms wide in greeting, but the hands catch it's robes, pulling them open, exposing a bare male dummy underneath.

Mr. Harman (Arthur English) had an outdoor market stall salesman look and sound about him and he was absolutely perfect for demonstrating these machines. Mr. Mash on the other hand, played the militant union shop steward absolutely perfectly.
