Another great one, off the beaten trail. There must be some crusty old local historians who could help you determine if those ARE the oldest railway tunnel and viaduct. Good luck with that.
@IckeWalks3 ай бұрын
The years certainly point towards it being the oldest!

Hayup Gareth that all looks well old, I wonder how many arches the viaduct has an a great place for wildlife to hangout or hide out, I reckon the farmer may have been ok with you looking at the structure? all you can do is ask, I bet there’s plenty of early 1900s rusty farm rammell under them arches, oh an at 0.35 ish there’s a darker green circle in the adjoining field probably got a good depth of earth an deep water supply hence the lush colour, it these kinda circles I’m seeing em all over pre flood ancient tech as in water level valves?! or entrances to old tunnels don’t know who knows., that tunnel you could do with a radio controlled 4 by 4 to go filming or one of them pole fishing rods that keep exstending, daft thoughts as ever. Cheers

I am wondering if the circle was the other end of the tunnel, y'know.

@@IckeWalks yes that seams plausible, an if tunnels get buried in our recent past as we know, imagine how many ancient pre Neolithic ones get infilled or filled in?! Over on Salisbury plain there’s of course many burial mounds but also plenty of circles that are flat an lush with deep green grass, so tunnels? or entrances to underground systems? those flint mining shutes are given as the overideing explanation but I feel that’s overplayed. Over on yonder plain their proposing to dig or tunnel under them big stones, makes you wonder what lies beneath? perhaps it requires someone with good drone skills with a knowledge of how to follow correct protocols to give us an alternative aerial view! there is a public byway or rather long walk from Wilton. On the subject of tunnels any chance of Ashbourne? An without a lot of driving how many tunnels in a day could you pass through? Or to Phil how many caves can you venture in to in a day? Cheers

@@IckeWalks Bit of Slack work there on my behalf, not working out how to get up to it. But the lack of close by public rights of way and the Farmer being nearby didnt help, but as you say, i bet he wouldnt of minded.

I was only thinking that since they are so old and historians don’t always get it right along the way, would it be worth a second look or are your sources pretty tight?
