Fantastic video Gareth. Here in Tasmania I saw a couple of steam trains up near Burnie the other day. I shouted out "oh Gareth would've love those!" 😂😂😂 (Hubby rolled his eyes!)

At the risk of being repetitive I have to say that was another fantastic video Gareth and the Rochdale cowboys 👍👍I keep thinking you must have run out of interesting walks , but no , they keep coming and are getting better , thank you so much .❤❤ I still doubt/question the official narrative of these amazing structures and the unseemly haste of their destruction or covering up and repurposing , but you do a fantastic job of bringing them to light . Keep on truckin good buddy , looking forward to the next one , thanks again

Hayup Gareth liking the trees an all the stunning stonework, that viaduct, Wow. I only caught the tail end of this I was making cheese on toast, I did catch Phil’s coat from the kitchen that’s fetching I want one super heroes are us here we come. With all the weather you’ve been having I thought you might like a song, it’s called “ all this sultry summer long” by I am happiest lion. it may work as a bit of an intro? Caleb’s a sound geezer. Cheers

All I can say is well done...what an awful day but it is Lancashire...sadly Gt Manchester pinched much of it. it is hard to know correct pronunciation...I struggle in my videos when I stray away from home It is the river 'Roach' the village is 'Face-it' 'shawferth' 'Witerth'....The last bridge is indeed an incline up to Lee Colliery. Rochdale is in Doomsday books and the area you visited has a long history. I have been investigating the Whitworth places in details from old archives.. Cotton was the product that made it big in the industrial revolution but previously it had been a big woolen producing area probably from at least the conquest and from 1200's in association with Stainlaw Abbey then Whalley Abbey . The hills are rich in coal but particularly stone and Flag rock especially; the Haslingden Flags. They were quarried and also mined. the Facit incline lead to the quarries and extensive mines as did the Britannia Incline. Broadly station had extensive stone sidings and an incline up to a main line on the moors. The line, as you say was not constructed till the 1870's. Until then the stone from the quarries up on the tops was carried on main line railways over the moors to inclines down to the railway from Bacup to Manchester via Rawtenstall, opened about 1846. about 3000 men worked those extensive quarries and mines. Stone went all over Europe and America . Thanks for doing the walk...there is also an old road that runs from Rochdale over the tops to Stacksteds called Rooley Moor rd...you might be interested in its history...but its real history is far much more than the cotton famine.. Many thanks.Clive
