The "smart zombies" are a callback to Season 1, where we see zombies that can open doors, break windows, and climb fences. This was back when Frank Darabont was the showrunner and had a different idea for the zombies than their portrayal in the comic. This was abandoned after AMC fired Darabont and was just never really addressed again until this episode.

Straight up…Eugene has come SO far from when we first saw him…

This Rosita and Eugene goodbye scene felt like Christian and Josh's personal goodbye to each other to me. Even if both of them survive and even if they get to be together on screen again on the finale on a group scene or something... This trully felt like a final one on one scene/conversation on screen for both actors and characters, and that hit me SO hard. I felt the same way with the Lydia/Carol and Lydia/Daryl goodbyes last episode. I was so scared for her here... But she's still alive and kicking. So I also believe now that there are good chances that she lives till the end as well, but that those were her last one on one scene with Norman and Melissa. Only 5 to go, and oh boy, do I predict lots of crying (from both os us lol).

I had to double check, its been a while... but since you have watched TWD: World Beyond, remember the very very end? The "variants" mentioned. Well... in the words of Carol Anne of Poltergeist... "They're here."

Haven’t had a chance to see the episode yet. Seeing the thumbnail for your reaction has me worried, and I'm saying, “Oh, God. Jess is crying, and it’s an episode of The Walking Dead. This is not good.”

One thing I’ve learnt in recent years from watching reaction videos and seeing comments on them is that I really do approach a lot of film/TV quite differently to many people. I seem to be much less invested in characters than most, and more into settings, scenes, world building and background plots. Not saying one is better than the other, just different Anyway, no tears from me…. Were some moving scenes, don’t get me wrong. But by far the most interesting things in the episode were the advanced next-Gen walkers and how that links to the final post-credit scene in World Beyond. Be fascinating to see where that goes (if anywhere, possibly into spin-offs) Also interesting is the Mercer dilemma. Where does he go from here? If he ‘defects’ does he bring the army along with him? How much power does he have? And btw, how does Commonwealth pay and supply its army? That’s a hell of an investment of resources. They must have some really good trade agreements in place with other large communities - now that’s the kind of payoff I want from the series: Decent socio-political explanation and development…..
