I'm glad that Rick ultimately decided to release Randall far away from the farm, but Shane made plans to get rid of both Randall and Rick. Sadly, I think that even if Rick would've talked Shane down in that field, Shane would've threatened Rick's life again later on. Rick was given no other choice but to defend himself.

This is the first moment in TWD that makes it more than just a zombie show. It's about the characters. Shane goes from anger to calm to intense sadness to then showing his smile in a few seconds. His smile wasn't pleasure or happiness. It's almost reassuring himself that Rick isn't fit to lead. The moment Rick kills Shane is the moment when he proves himself as a leader capable of survival. Rick was cunning whereas Shane was more hot-headed and Rick outsmarted him which maintained his leadership of the group. Also Shane proved his weakness as he was unable to shoot Rick when he had the chance whereas Rick didn't hesitate to stab. (P.S as Shane fades, he just cradles Rick's face like he's trying to apologize when he's dying imo)

Funnily enough on first viewing I didn’t pick up on him manipulating! That’s why it took me all the way until he went and took Randall to realise he wasn’t turning a new leaf as I thought! So ofc I’m most disappointed in Shane come my realisation hahaha

@@DanReadd Yeah it was funny because I was like oh just wait and see what Shane is doing right about now. This episode definitely has one of the biggest betrayals in the shows history- and I cannot even begin to imagine how Rick’s character must’ve felt in that moment. Of course it’s a tv-show, so best not to over analyze but observing that Rick tried so hard to reinstate the brother-like bond him and Shane had before the fall, makes the scene all-the-more emotional. He had so much faith in Shane, and the fact that it ended up the way it did was so heartbreaking. The way he becomes distraught immediately afterwards almost as though he regretted his decision to kill Shane, but also acknowledging that it was Shane that decided his own fate in that moment- was so insanely powerful. I think it’s safe to say that Rick will never be the same after Shane’s death. I’m happy to know that Shane’s death was the one spoiled, because it happened so early in the series- so hopefully you can go on without any knowledge about any future deaths/plots/etc. Manifesting no spoilers for you, because truly this show is best experienced without any pre-conceived ideas of what’s to come. The whole trajectory of the show really changes many times within this series, and that’s also really important to acknowledge as well. The one good thing Shane taught Rick through his time on the show, and especially through his betrayal; is that you really can’t be the good guy in a broken world and expect to survive. I know you don’t have much faith in Rick as a leader right now, and that’s understandable but man, as much as I hate to admit it- Shane’s logic was right: you can’t be a good person if you want to survive, it was just his execution of that logic that was flawed. It’s kill or be killed. Welcome to the apocalypse😁‼️ Thanks for the bonus reaction Dan! We all appreciate your hard work in getting more episodes out and consistently entertaining us! :))

Thank youuu! I always love your comments. I seem to agree with them so easily. I agree that practically Shane is more fit for this world. As much as there’s a moral side to making decisions, I can’t sit here and claim that I’d stick completely to that as I’m not in their situation! I do however believe the moral though should never be lost. My hope is going forward, Rick shapes into the best parts of himself, using the experiences with Shane, and his moral compass together.

Been waiting for this!! 😃 Like the song, "Today's Tom Sawyer", Rick is potentially the quintessential man to rebuild society, IMHO. He has the heart of compassion, even for strangers, that is needed, but also the street smarts to know that this will never happen if predators walk the earth unchallenged. Society has to be fought for and defended, but with humanity, and the balance is so difficult to figure out. I see how his mindset has been shaped by these two men, Dale and Shane, like the angel on one shoulder, and they devil on the other, even after they both are gone they are there, fighting for Ricks soul.

Why would you feel there's a way back from this? Rick has given him more chances than he deserved. Shane isn't even likable. The only person he cares for is himself and what he wants (Lori and Carl and the baby.) Rick hasn't given Shane any reason to want to kill him. Shane is jealous and controlling and possessive, on top of being hostile toward the others. If this is how he treats Rick, imagine how he would treat the rest of the survivors. He has shown what it would be like if he were in charge and he's not above sacrificing people. It's not even the first time he's thought about killing Rick. He was always hostile towards Dale which shows a massive amount of insecurity and aggression. Shane's been shit from the very start. Protecting Lori and Carl doesn't cancel that out. Protection does not equal love. Not every bad guy deserves to be redeemed and not every bad guy CAN be redeemed.

Lori's speech to Shane and all was great, but at this point it's just giving him false hope. She spends the entirety of season 2 yanking his chain. "Leave my family alone". "Stay". "We are not your problem". "I'm sorry". So yeah, imagine what that does to Shane. As far as him telling Rick about Carl and the walker, should he have? Yes. But, if you haven't noticed Shane's go-to with Rick is to use Lori and Carl to manipulate him into giving Shane his way. He didn't just go to Rick as a concerned friend. He turned it into "freeing that prisoner is more important than your son". He ALWAYS uses Rick's family to manipulate the situation. He's constantly guilt-tripping Rick to get his way. With Lori, it's all about keeping score for Shane. "I saved you life this many times. Me: 4 Rick: 0". He's manipulating her as well. Whether the apocalypse made him that way or not, Shane's an ass and a troublemaker. Period.
@Amber-se7qq Жыл бұрын
The best thing for Lori to do would be to have as limited interactions with Shane as possible and especially forget about ever mentioning anything to do with their previous affair before Rick appeared. This is what frustrates me a lot when it comes to Lori. Stop talking to him. And I'm sorry, if I were Lori, I'm not apologizing to some douche who tried to rape me, drunk or not. I'm so tired of people saying that Shane is being "influenced" by this thing or that thing. No one else is acting the way he is. No one else is power tripping and I mentioned in another comment that Shane doesn't care about anyone else in the group. Shane is a good antagonist, maybe even a good villain, but I don't believe in redeeming every nasty person at every turn. Shane's actions are Shane's and no one owes him the benefit of the doubt.

Once Lori came over to talk to Shane and express how she felt that gave him hope. So as Rick is about to release the prisoner Shane uses the Carl situation as a distraction to do what he wants and get rid of his many obstacles for the family he believes is his.

This was Shane giving his life to make Rick a hardened leader who can make the tough decisions. That's why he was taunting him with the "I'm a better father.." lines. The actor of Shane wanted a shot in the show where Rick checks his gun and the mag was empty, meaning Shane never intended to kill Rick, but this didn't happen. Also another thing Shane's actor wanted was to be the only walker that said anything and he wanted to say "Riiiick..." but that was not allowed either.

The writing for Shane felt so off in this episode. Imo, Shane realistically should of lasted longer. Made almost no sense to the character for him to suddenly go crazy like this without a real reason lol. It's almost an excuse to kill Shane off before the finale after we just lost Dale. Season 2 was kinda depressing losing so many great characters and a character who had so much potential thanks to the comics (Sophia). Shane Walsh is a survivalist, not an idiot. Hate what the writers made him look like in the end.

Yep a shocking episode. You almost have to force yourself not to look at KZbin because you have some selfish reactors that put everything in their YT videos including titles and photos all over their thumbnails "GIVING EVERYTHING AWAY", it's terrible and of course if you're watching TWD you get things popping up in your "recommended things to watch" so you almost have to have blinkers on when looking at KZbin - use to drive me crazy. There were a few guilty reactors, but one reactor in particular would do it all the time some of it was clickbait as well because he wanted viewings and would do anything to get it and people were fed up of it, I had to say something to him, I wasn't the only one because he was spoiling it for others. I almost had to stop looking at anything on YT with TWD on it. Anyway, moving on, Rick's crying and bawl after he killed Shane gets me EVERY time, such powerful acting and when he screams "DAMN YOU SHANE for making me do this...this was YOU not me"😢 and then that BIG BAWL.😭 Then Carl seeing whatever he saw and having to put Shane down a second time was again shocking. Although Shane was right in some respects when it came to the groups safety and Rick being hesitant to make some drastic decisions and calls because Rick would think it through first and wanted to remain as humane as he possibly could because he held certain morals and only kill if completely necessary to keep his son and wife alive and the rest of his group, but when it came to Lori and Carl, Shane was spiralling out of control like a ticking timebomb and I don't think that last talk he and Lori had when Lori went to him and apologised for everything helped, it gave him a little hope, you could see it the way he was looking at her and I think it made matters worse, I honestly do which must have led him to think Rick was the problem and with him out of the way it would solve everything and he could have Lori back to himself. I wonder with Shane in control, how many more people would he have killed if they crossed him or didn't agree with him or he didn't like because his thinking was not always rational. Really enjoyed your reaction again Daniel!
