This is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series...because of Daryl. He risked his life more then once searching for Sophia. This is exactly what it was. This is why Carol didn’t react negatively, and is in fact why she stopped mid-bend over. As a abuse survivor she knows it’ll show Daryl she won’t hurt him. When you’re an abuse survivor you know the look, no matter what. Even though no one knew back then that Daryl WAS abused, I did and it’s solely because of that reaction right there.

Oh yeah, I wanted to talk about Daryl's delusional conversation with Merle. I think it's cool how he used Merle's jibes as motivation to push thru the pain, and get it done. The biggest factor on surviving an event like that is the will to survive. He became his bad ass brother to get out of that canyon, even the ear necklace was for that purpose. Love it.

The showrunners have always told fans that no one is safe. This show is not afraid to push the limits with storylines and character deaths. It's not like other shows where you can say with confidence that they won't kill off main characters. Most of us thought they had killed Daryl off in this episode. I disagree. First of all they aren't going anywhere until Carl gets better, and her last known position is close to the farm. The farm makes a great base of operation for the search. They know the direction of travel, and there are plenty of people with not a lot to do that can do a grid search. The erea has plenty of water which is in her favor. With all that in mind the pragmatic thing to do is to look for her. In a world where the dead outnumber the living, every life is precious, as someone once said. Or to put it another way, people are a resource. See what I did there? You can't get back to the world of civilized community unless people are willing to risk their lives for other people. Fending for just yourself and family only works in the short term. People helping each other is the way to go.

Gotta be honest.. when Andrea shot Daryl it pissed me off. She didn’t need to shoot. There were four ppl standing right there aside from Daryl. It annoyed me. A great reaction of course!! Looking forward to the next to come. Monday seems so far away lol. Have a wonderful 4th of July!! My tradition is to watch fireworks at home. I can see them from my house. Then I go to the marina here and send of paper lanterns. Lost a daughter on July 5. She was drinking and driving and died in an accident. Been waiting all day for this! Also, don't know if you remember Maggie's look when TDog bashed that well walker's face in. She was horrified. Not the reaction of someone who's seen a walker be killed, and she's the one that got the one in the woods (she didn't kill it though, just knocked it down). Didn't do nothing for the 4th, usually we participate in a big 4th party/family reunion type event but this year we didn't. My hubby's been experiencing chronic back pain so he decided to take it easy this year. Been sitting in the house all day, washed clothes, and checking YT for your reaction video!

For the fourth, hung out with some family, some of which came in from out of town. My brother did some effing fantastic tri-tips on the grill, which got picked cleaner than a walker victim. We spent most of our food coma recovery watching The Great British Baking Show on Netflix (Highly recommended, by the way if you like cooking shows. This one is a lot more straightforward with none of the manufactured drama and contrivances like American reality TV.). We finished up the evening with checking out a local fireworks show.

I'm loving your TWD reactions! I really love that you take the time to talk about the episode and the characters. One of my favorite character is Daryl so I love to talk about him, trying to analyse his character. Cause we don't really know much about him by this point. Definitely the Cherokee Rose scene previously told me (us) Daryl has a good heart. Now forgive me but I don't know how much you took from Daryl's hallucination cause you were talking to each other in the clip so I'm not sure if you really heard it all but I thought everything about their "talk" told a lot about Daryl (and Merle). Obviously Merle is not really there but what Merle says to Daryl here (or is it Daryl telling it to himself?) is very telling to me on how Daryl sees himself in this group: "that he is nothing but white trash and he means nothing to these people". (In season 1 the group always talked about the Dixon brothers in the same way so it's basically confirmed to Daryl IMO.) Also Daryls reaction to Carol, I agree he must have a trust issue or not wanting to let people close. Thank you for doing TWD. I love this show. It may have it's ups and downs and people have complained about various thing over the years and I've agreed to some of it for sure but it has not stopped me from loving it even after 9 seasons so I'm hoping you will go all the way. :) Happy 4th!

Lol, oooomg this trip down memory lane is also dredging back up all the reasons I'd forgotten why I dislike Andrea, hahahaha... I mean yeah, it's those scenarios where she wasn't intending to screw things up but it just keeps happening over and over to the point I wonder if the writers just didn't like her or just thought it was a funny running gag. On the other hand, when you meet enough people in life, you sooner come across people like Andrea who somehow always inadvertently exacerbate problems or create them seemingly avoidably. (And on rare occasions, there're times in life where we all end up being a little like Andrea for a while..) I kind of wonder how Laurie Holden perceived the way her character was portrayed in the show, although I'm not sure how closely it follows the source material in this regard. On Pragmatism vs. Humanity; I disagree with those who side with Shane on looking for Sophia, and his thinking in general. If you think about it, his attitude more closely resembles Ed, who isn't willing to share and doesn't care about others. I believe it is pragmatic to keep searching, as well as the right thing to do. They are hold up at the farm, with recourses to last a while, in relative safety. They can't leave until Carl is better anyway. They have Sophia's last known position and direction of travel, and it's close, so the farm makes a good base of operation. There are plenty of people with not much to do, so they can conduct a grid search. This makes sense even if they turn up with nothing, or she's dead. Shane only cares about his Immediate group, perticularly Lorie and Carl. Rick is thinking bigger picture. Just fending for your family may work for a short while, but you have to get back to building community. Children are the future. It isn't just about surviving to an old age, it's about replenishing the earth with the living. To do this you have to come together, trust others, help them, not competing and killing over resources. Will Shane's way accomplish that? No. In a world where the dead outnumber the living, all life matters. People are a resource. ;o)

I read somewhere that if a zombie apocalypse ever did happen and if it couldn't be contained the military would bomb all major cities since cities have large populations which creates a bigger risk of spreading. Fans went nuts on Andrea shooting Daryl back when this first aired...lol She refused to listen to everyone telling her not to shoot, she tells poor Dale "shut up, Dale" can't see through the sun glare, and shoots anyway. Shane was trying to appeal to Rick on a cop-to-cop level, regarding calling off the search for Sophia. He’s not wrong that the first 72 hours is crucial and after that, it’s usually a recovery for a body. If it were under normal circumstances, Shane would do his duty to get finality on the case. I understand why he’s wanting to stop the search, but he’s letting his pragmatism override his sense of humanity.

This was the episode that hooked me on TWD. I hadn't watched it at all, and during the run up to season 4 they were doing the annual marathon. I saw the scene where Andrea shot Daryl, and then her conversation with Dale afterward. I decided I had to catch up with the series, so I subbed to Netflix and binged the first 3 seasons in a week prior to the start of season 4.

I think Shane wanted to call off the search because as he said to Rick, they have been on dozens of missing persons cases, and if the person doesn’t show up after 72h, chances are they are looking for a body. However, I would argue these are FAR from Normal times and that these are extenuating circumstances. They actually KNOW this little girl-she’s not a stranger, and Rick, at least, feels guilty about her running away. They need to keep looking, if only to keep them all on the farm for a bit longer. I couldn’t stop looking for her until they find her or a body.

Happy Independence Day!!!! Thank you for your service! I live in Louisville KY.Growing up, we always went to the Naval Ordnance on the 4th. Unfortunately, it was shut down many years ago. (I wont mention by who) Unfortunately, there really hasnt been any fireqorks displays worth mentioning since that was shut down. We do have, "Thunder over Louisville". Which is one of the largest fireworks displays on record. It happens every year, the last Saturday in April. As part of the KY Derby festivals. Its an all day event. With airshows during the day. I am an airplane fanatic! When I was young, I seriously contemplated joining the navy. With the goal of becoming a Blue Angel. I changed my mind, and instead, chose to be a mom! I dont regret that decision! Ive seen many cool planes at that event. Blue Angels have come a couple times. But for me, I wish it was to celebrate Independence day. Instead of a horse race. But, unfortunately, money seems to make the world go round. But if you are ever wanting to come to Louisville KY, I highly recommend coming during the Derby Festival season. Not much to see otherwise.lol and hit Mammoth cave, before leaving out of KY. You wont regret it! (Unless you are claustrophobic, like me. Then you wont miss much by skipping the cave lol) Hope you have a safe and amazing Independence day! Ps love seeing you guys this much!

Funny that you mentioned the Thunder over Louisville fireworks. Several years ago my husband and I were driving to Florida (from northern Indiana) in April and were approaching Louisville as the fireworks for Thunder over Louisville were being launched. There was nothing like driving over the Ohio River with such a phenomenal fireworks display right there! I had to look up why they were having fireworks in April. I'd like to go back and see them again sometime.

Happy Independence Day everybody. I spent my morning over at friends grilling, and now I'm waiting for my daughter to drop her dog off. It's not as noisy here and her dog is afraid of the fireworks , so I'm dog-sitting tonight. Daryl was lucky he woke up to that walker chewing on his boot and not his leg. Guess the walker had a foot fetish! :D Did you guys catch the homage that AMC did about the film; "Deliverence"? There's a scene where Jon Voight's charactor is climbing a cliff with a bow and arrows, falls, and gets an arrow thru his side. I think the ear necklace was also an homage to "Apocolips Now", as well, but not sure. "That stupid bitch!!" Lacey when Andrea shot Deryl! Ha ha!. Also Lacey rolling her eyes at Shane bragging about his exploits. Too funny, you had me in stitches. I really get Hershel at this point. (EXEPT FOR THE BARN WALKERS) , He has done a great deal for the newcommers, and now they are messin with his fungshway! I think I'd be ready to kick em off my farm too. But he really doesn't get how precarious the situation can be. Rick and crew can be real handy to have around.

Ill be perfectly honest on this matter, i would love to think i would still be searching for Sophia, but the cold hard truth is i would probably not at that point in time. Here's why : In our world and our time, professionals say that within 72 hours of going missing, a person *(let alone a child)* has under 10% chance to ever be found. In a Walker apocalyptic world, and several days later(I assume since Carl's seems to have recovered quite a bit), the chances would be VERY close to 0%. Therefore i'd pur the group's security above risking it for that under 1% chance.

This episode made me hate andrea so much. Like she is so selfish and cocky/wanting to prove herself in this episode. Like not only does she not obey the rules of the farm, which is incredibly important for trying to stay, but she tries to take a crazy shot just to take it. Like rick or shane or anyone isnt gonna try to take that shot, because its hard to hit, and most likely results in just wasting ammo. Plus making noise to call more walkers when they could just dispatch it with melee weapons. Like she takes this shot that is stupid on so many levels, even if it wasn't Daryl, just because she wants to show off how good she is with guns now that they are teaching her. I just haaate decision making like that and not caring about the group just because you wanna flex. Sorry, there is my rant
