As a former fanatic of the Walking Dead, I felt after the show lost Rick and Carl, the show lost its central driving story and ironically the show became a directionless bloated corpse of its former self. It became about too many characters trying to share equal screen time and trying to be self important. The appeal of the Walking Dead originally was a Father trying to keep his son alive and raising him right despite a world that has no rules and empowers people to be the worst version of themselves due to trauma or survival. It is very relatable to any parent. The supporting cast was more like an extended family, but that family revolved around Rick and Carl for the most part. When it lost that, as a viewer I was just jumping from one character to the next and not really invested in any as central.

I liked dead City okay. I love seeing Negan back and thought his character was outstanding. Maggie really got on my nerves though and it made it hard for me to enjoy the show which is sad to say. Still I'm glad I watched it and I hope to see more just because of Negan. I don't know if you've watched the Daryl spin off but I thought it was amazing. I would say it had many good seasons but the issue was it became a formula. Here is how it went. 1) Setup where they are. 2) Forced to leave safety to find a new place. 3) The journey is scary. 4) Arrive at Safe Place. 5) Try to fit in and enjoy the safety but turns out its not safe or up to the morals of Rick. 6) Rick burns everything down and ruins a safe zone. 7) Survivors follow Rick to a new journey to a new Safe Zone or perish. 8) Cliffhanger to new story and wait a year or two to restart formula. This worked well but became annoying and predictable. When they got rid of Carl and Rick. That was the end for me. I can deal with an enjoyable formula, but not so much when there is no central character story anymore.

@@SSingh-nr8qzno, your formula isn’t true. One of the first places the group goes with Rick to is the CDC and it wasn’t Rick that destroyed that safe area, it was the last researcher that did that. Rick got them out of there. And at the farm house, yes there were struggles between the groups, but again it wasn’t Rick’s fault what happened they were overrun by walkers. And the prison also wasn’t Rick’s fault, it was the Governor that attacked the prison. And the same goes for Alexandria, they were attacked by Negan. There definitely was a pattern of the group having to move from one place to another looking for a new safe place, but the reasons for having to leave wasn’t always the same. And it would only be natural for different groups to have issues with each other, especially under these situations. Constantly having a bigger group take them out was a bit too much for me. My biggest problem with the show is that the entire world’s military was not able to stop the virus and wipe out the walkers. With the military, police forces, government agencies, and armed citizens there is no way this would ever happen. At least not in the US, too many armed citizens. There should still be a central government with a military and a very large safe area, like several states being free of walkers and gangs. I always hoped they would have ended the series with Rick and Carl making it to a very large safe area that was like from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. And then you could have a completely new cast and show showing what happened in other countries and/or how the new US government takes back the rest of the country.

So if there is a delay in them going home it’s bc a) they decide to try to dismantle CRM/take down general Beale or b) they try to redirect CRM so they arent followed back to Alexandria. I love the Walking Dead. The last couple of seasons were not the greatest though. I'd love a prequel about how everything started and the initial fall of humanity. Fear sort of did it, but it could have been better. I didn't watch the other spin offs, except for the first two season of Fear. I might give this a try, but I'm not holding my breath that I'll love it.
