I liked carl's hair before season 6. Girls generally have long hair (at least in America where Carl is) and most people are use to seeing girls with long hair, not guys with long hair. So when most people see Carl and his long hair, it reminds them of a girl. Girls are generally seen as weaker (naturally they are, but im not saying girls are weak) so it makes him appear weak. Also most people aren't use to seeing guys with shoulder long hair, although shoulder long hair does look good on some guys.

I seriously just think it's just to hide the eye injury. The fringe will hide a majority of the prosthetic and look better with whatever long term patch he has. I think he was growing it long for a while in preparation for the big injury storyline. He has said that he can't cut his hair because of the show so people should just let it go. It's neat to have stumbled upon this because I recently read that long hair actually helps humans perceive danger and changes in their environment. It was a study from WWII(?). They wanted Indians to be scouts and trackers but every time they were given the standard military hair cut they would mysteriously lose all the skill they had. They did several test long hair vs short hair and even if a person was a great tracker/scout, once their hair was cut they seemed to lose their abilities. It was thought it might have to do with the mammalian evolution of hair as a way to better percieve their environment. Neat if it's true. So keep growing that hair Carl! With only one eye you'll need it 😣

I think that it is because as a nod to ricks and his arm loss. As hersal said in the comics usually horse hair was used to stop the blood when a limb was cut off but human would also work. So maybe carl is prepared or just a nod to ricks arm loss

Now that I think about it... I think this effects with all of the characters not just carl with the hair cutting situation... when rick grew his beer out he was uneasy and disoriented that Alexandria was still standing by all the luck..
