The Wallflowers - One Headlight (drum cover)

One Headlight is one of my all time favorite drum tracks. This was primarily the set up that Matt Chamberlain used to play this track. He did however have another tom but for this cover I only used my floor tom.
Did you know this track had no cymbal hits in it? Pay attention to the transitions between the different sections and you'l understand what I mean.

I hate trying to learn this song because it's so freekin simple and yet also complex. All of the little fills, high hat slurps, etc. don't follow much of a pattern. So many nuances... Nice job.

Same thing here! But, the good news is that this young man shows us exactly how it’s done. It’s all about the dynamics. It’s just a simple eighth note pattern with a driving four on the floor, but you’ve got to do those accents and those little hi hat and snare syncopations and do them in the right places. You can do it!

The original recording was done by drummer extradionaire Matt Chamberlain who said he was inspired by Steve Ferrone's drumming on Petty's You Don't Know How it Feels. This is an excellent cover. Well done, Scotty!

Thanks man! It's a ludwig black beauty, I use Remo heads, coated ambassador on top and hazy on bottom. The bottom head is slightly tighter then the top. I don't have any fancy methods of tuning, I just tune it like the next guy. There is a certain way I'm hitting the snare drum to get that crack I'm looking for and in most cases this is how you get a good backbeat. It's one of the most important aspects of the groove and I plan on posting a video about this topic in the near future :)
