I honestly only just saw this particular episode on Hallmark Channel recently. Growing up I only saw the later ones. This episode instantly became one of my favorites. As a grown woman viewing this show now, it is so evident what a jewel Richard Thomas was to this show. Just a gift! Absolutely perfect casting. He played these scenes w/complete abandon and passion, and had great chemistry w/Jenny. Why, oh why aren't there shows on of this caliber these days? Thank goodness for Hallmark & INSP ch.

I guess I'm a romantic after all. I just saw this episode , and I hated the ending. it was almost as if the writers only cared about a sad , heartbreaking ending. they kill off her father, which should make her staying a certainty. she's a grown adult (orphaned)who must leave suddenly to keep a near stranger company. her new step mom, now a widow,and no kin to her. .it's obvious she has found her family in the Waltons, and HELLO?! she just fell in love. ridiculous ending. outstanding performances by both .I don't remember this one from my teen years. what a great show. INSP recently showed them in the 40's, and now they're back in the 30's, so I can't help but be reminded that I witnessed these kids grow up like my own family.

@@tonym994 I agree. If Jenny had been a real person, she would never have left and done her lover that way. She would have stayed with the Waltons. She chooses the step mom over an absolutely wonderful man. Not possible.

the scene where he plays something on the dulcimer for her, and after, sort of glances at her , maybe slightly taken aback by his own musically expressive performance, you can almost see during that brief look at her positive reaction, an improv scene.

@@randyearly1584 in HOLLYWOOD anything's possible. but I agree ,in turn. main characters on TV, never get to have more than a short romance. but then, in later years, they give us that ridiculous story where Ben and Cindy run out and get married, and live next door, as if the convenience of having a not too bad shack right next to the house never occurred to Ben, and love just swept him away to the JOP. give me a break.

Miss Allen was so adorable in this episode. How could you not fall in love with that face. She is still around today living in California and I wish her all the best. Thanks for the memories.

John-Boy is the embodiment of the perfect son. Jenny is the embodiment of the perfect daughter in law. This story was written as wish fulfillment for all parents. Loved this story as a child. Love this story as an adult.

I had the biggest crush on John Boy when I watched the Walton's as a young teenager. I adored this episode and watched it over and over and cried. I used to get made fun of for liking John Boy so much and bawling during this episode but I didn't care!!! Remembered this again and had to look it up. I can't believe they were in a relationship:). So cute and wish it worked out for them. Two peas in a pod 💟. True love is forever even when it doesn't work out. Unrequited love, bittersweet, but feel alive. Love it. 💟

Richard and Sian broke up after The Thanksgiving Story was filmed and so they couldn't act together anymore and the character was dropped. A real tragedy.

@@randyearly1584 actually the narration at the end of The Love Story episode said John and Jenny did not keep their promise and went their separate ways so the screenwriter wasn’t going to have them get together regardless of the offscreen relationship. The show had only gone on for half a season so it was too early to have John Boy find the right girl and leave the nest. Maybe if they had introduced Jenny in Season 3 or 4 it would flow better with the narrative since we’ve gotten to know John Boy better by then.

I really thought he would marry Jenny. That woman Janet is not a good match for him but he married her. She didn't seem to care about having children, didn't seem to enjoy being with his family like Jenny did. His family also adored Jenny. Why did that Janet come along and take him away from Jenny? That wedding was not fun to watch when he wasn't with who he should have been with

I read that they actually dated for years in the earlt 70s. She is like 5 yeats older than he is. And she just left hollywood at the end of the 70s for no apperant reason. That episode of the Braggart I can't stand the way he treats everyone just talks about himself and his voice gets to me it's very annoying so when that one is on I have to change the channel until that one is over then I change it back. Just something about him I can't stand.
