Best TV show ever made. To me, the first season was the best in every way, including the theme. But it was always good (especially the first three seasons). Thanks for posting.

Beautiful theme song! Music means so much in movies! It sets the pace. Not to bring up another movie but, that's what sets the theme for Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. There is no music. I just love the way they have the characters young and then more matured. Beautiful video, very well done 💗💕

That was such a wonderful TV show. And it wasn't quite so warm and fuzzy as people like to remember. While there was definitely a strong family core we're all attracted to, the show very ably tackled the issues of the day -- the horrible Depression, the storm clouds of WWII, racism, attitudes about drinking and women, etc. It was wondeful TV for many reasons -- well-written, well-produced, well-acted. it was HONEST to the core. I think that's we responded.

Yeah, the show was never the same after Ellen Corby had her stroke, even when she came back to the show, I for one missed her grumpiness and biting everyone's head off!! Then Richard left, which, as far as I was concerned after seeing that lump of clay playing John-Boy, was pretty much the death of the character John-Boy!! And worse of all and sadly, Will Geer dying after the filming of season 6 had wrapped up. The show suffered greatly because of these 3 events; it was never the same afterwards
@LionofLight7773 жыл бұрын
....Agreed!...The loss of Ellen Corby was the equivalency of losing the Matrix "Oracle".✌😔
@jefffinkbonner9551 Жыл бұрын
Agreed! The death of Will Geer was beautifully written into the show and truly showed how hard it is to loose a beloved grandfather and patriarch of the family. Ellen Corby was so brave to come back on camera after having had a stroke. It did so much good to not hide away the reality of strokes and the debilitating conditions with aging. Richard Thomas leaving the show was more clumsy. Although it was passed off as him leaving for school, they should have never had another actor depict him on screen; huge mistake. They could’ve referred to him in passing occasionally, but having that other actor play what was essentially a paper machete version of the character just added to the sense of imposter syndrome. Not really the actor’s lack of talent, just the way they half-heartedly wrote the character; he wasn’t the focal point protagonist, just another person in the room by the name John Boy.

TY. I had forgotten about this reunion movie. I was unable to watch it originally when it aired, so hopefully I will soon. Since there was numerous comments on the physical appearance of the cast back then, I'll add my 2 cent worth. Indeed, Eric should have been made to look more the times. As for the weight gain, of the youngest male actors; I believe it to be realistic. But the 2 actors that really got my attention was Richard & Jon. I found them to have aged very very well.....hmm hmm.

@sambda Жыл бұрын
Yes. Mind you, the hairstyles weren't right in the original series, either. Ralph Waite's is always too long. And check out Jim-Bob in the pilot! Later on in the show, both Erin and Mary Ellen have Farrah-flicks. In the recent revamps, John-Boy has a sort of 1990s centre parting (that's certainly not 1930s, but neither is it very *now*) and everybody swans about in new clothes in an immaculate house.
@Scott__C Жыл бұрын
@@sambda Some of that with Ralph Waite and one or two others, I chalked it up to they had to much to do and hadn't gotten around to haircuts yet, lol. Sadly, the new Waltons is wrong on so many points and just to me the vibe of it doesn't work. It doesn't ring real to me as the original does.

I liked both actors in the role of John-Boy. I thought Robert Wightman did a pretty good job replacing Richard Thomas given that they were hard shoes to fill. I imagine that taking the original John-Boy's place after audiences got used to him was difficult, but to me Wightman took the role over very well. He also has a pretty good singing voice as demonstrated in "the Furlough."
@LovesDavidCassidy2 жыл бұрын
Robert Wrightman & Richard Thomas was both in no other love
@kendallrivers1119 Жыл бұрын
No offense to Mr. Wightman but it's pretty clear who will always be the one true John Boy when you watch the reunion movies and of course it's rightfully Richard Thomas reprising the iconic role. It says a lot that the producers just knew that they had to get Thomas back or else it wasn't gonna work.

Thank you, Mr. Quaker62. I know you didn't mean any disrespect. :-) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you aren't the only one who didn't like Wightman's acting. I just personally know that acting is difficult, and sometimes it's hard to please audiences no matter if it's on stage or on film, so I feel for actors/actresses who are harshly criticized.
