Did you see my Ancient Recitations request on Lotus Eaters podcast? I'm a visually disabled feller who is greatly appreciative to have such a masterful narration. I usually have to suffer through bad Text-to-Speech programs to read, so this upload was a delight. Your reading of Gilgamesh got my mother into ancient history which also helped us bond a bit, and I have a ripped mp3 copy of it on my phone as well. Thanks again, Carl.

So glad to know this channel isn’t abandoned. Your reading of Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came is fantastic, and this instalment definitely merits another few listens. Thanks Carl

I learned of this channel after my US history teacher played a video and I thought, "That sounds like Carl!" Glad this channel isn't dead, since you have a great reading voice.

You can see what influenced Tolkien, an Anglo Saxon professor. "Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing? Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing? Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning, Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?"

The ending is speaks truth, it is only by renewing our covenant with God that we may wake from our slumber and see evil for what evil is. Until such a time even the ashes will hold no warmth for the Phoenix, to call out the devil by his name is break the grasp of his curse upon us.

Our way of life, and Western identity, is under serious siege. As a Italian American it's clear our foundation is under attack, from Plato to Thomas Paine.

I’ve had some health problems lately, finding a cure seems impossible due conflict of interest with pharmaceutical companies. I’ve listened to this every day as it describes how I often feel and try to keep faith in God that I will see better days. To me this poem is about grief except for the last line which is about hope.

Unless you have a solution, don't complain about your woes and steel yourself. Pray and take comfort; God knows and has your shelter. Grim.

That is your advice to an exile in the Anglo-Saxon era? I think you're overestimating his options friend! Without a lord (a 'ring giver') to support him - financially and with allies - his life would have been grim indeed.

They need to do some sort of classic Sargon content once in a while. I get they are trying to appeal to a wider crowd professionally.
