Thanks for the open minded review of my film. I appreciate the "fun" accolade and your general enjoyment of the film. And do I understand a number of your concerns over somewhat shallow characters. Under pressure from my fellow producers I did cut about 10 minutes of the first act to get to the initial big action sequence and perhaps that was a mistake. rivalries

Hey, uh- I love how you made the Martian Tripods appear like the original novel designs somewhat. I just gotta ask? Does the Red weed exist in the Goliath universe? (I just assumed it didn’t appear in the movie, because the invasion was only- Day 2 when the large New York battle occurred. - but I mean like the original 1899 invasion?)

@@TGM_Productions Probably. But no real time to show it in this minutes allowed.

@@Boombah100 Ah. - It would be cool, if there was a prequel to Goliath. Like set back in the 1899, and with the characters from the book, Red weed and- the black smoke. I also assume that the black smoke wasn’t used in Goliath, either because these Martians haven’t created the weapon or they had no use for it in the second invasion.- Maybe because, they assumed humans would have masks to protect them. Also, yea sorry for the questions- I’m way too much a war of the worlds fan. Do the cylinders in this universe unscrew like in the book? Then the Heat Ray turret raises out and torches the area?

It's also a good pitch for War of the Worlds themed roleplaying campaigns. We're planning one for after lockdown using Fate Core rules; a friend has called dibs on playing the Red Baron and I'm playing the plucky spy from Rudyard Kipling's 'Kim' as an adult in the secret service.

This Movie had more good use of Politics and Diversity than _any_ of the modern films released nowadays... Mainly because it's message is unapologetically, "It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, when it comes to an alien invasion, unity equals survival."

I disagree slightly on the characters being bland, I think alot of the films problems comes down to pacing and probably time/budget constraints on the part of the creators. For Eric specifically, his arc is overcoming the fear of the Martians and the fear of losing more to them. To me it seems plenty of characters had the groundwork for dramatic and interesting development but simply lacked time to properly implement it.

Kinda like Hazbin Hotel, albeit with better worldbuilding... Some problems never change.

Man I wished they made a series out of this, imagine in a couple of years when we take the fight to the alien bastard's homeworld, you see emerging from the mists the USS Enterprise (CV-6), escorted by the USS USS North Carolina (BB-55) & New Jersey (BB-62) the Black Dragon, with Richard Halsey Best and Norman Kleiss having just taken off, the SMS Bismarck, Prinz Eugen & Graf Zepplin with Manfred von Richftofen, followed by Hans-Joachim Marseille "The Start of Africa" & Eric Hartmann "Bobby"/The Black Tullip then on the left, we see the IJ Akagi with Saburō Sakai and Takahide Aioi cirling around the huge mass of IJN Musashi, would have been epic! :D

I agree I think this premise is best suited for a series format--or maybe a miniseries even. Idk ww2/post-ww2 era war of the worlds by itself has so much potential lol. a miniseries of 1 hour long episodes focused on a different aspect of the invasion/post-invasion. I've been interested by the idea of incorporating the Soviet Union and how this would affect the Cold War. I've personally thought about the idea of a WotW adaptation taking place in the 60s-70s from the Soviet perspective. Maybe flip the usual cold-war-era trope in American movies where everyones first guess is "The Russians must be behind this." Only in this case they're going "The Americans must be behind this!" At least during the period in the book when the capsule first lands and is idle for several days & vaporizing anyone that comes near before it awakens. Here's the good news tho! War of the Worlds is public domain, there's no copyright, anyone can make their own spin on it. Perhaps you might consider writing out your interesting ideas in your own take on WotW--as a novel or screenplay. For fun and maybe hopefully get it picked up someday. Your descriptive writing would be well-suited for it

You know, I might have been more with you on some of these complaints, before the current U.S. administration. Before I found out that there are really seemingly intelligent people who sincerely believe that the Earth is flat. For the movie plot of WWI being on its way to kick off, we're dealing with a "Out of sight, out of mind" mindset. You may think that's unrealistic, but it clearly is realistic, considering the battles over climate change. The leaders, terrorists, and jerks all around had internalize that the Martians can not survive on Earth. Therefore the threat is over. WWI was commonly called "The war to end all wars." So... I don't agree with you. Especially now. It's entirely realistic that these people would have absolutely believed that the Martians were no longer a meaningful threat. All of that infighting pretty much stopped once the Martians started attacking again.
@rantsolot5 жыл бұрын
All checks out to me. But that wasn't really a major criticism to begin with. I'm not one to harp on minor logical inconsistencies in films. I was well-aware that the story they wanted to tell wouldn't have been possible had they tried to make it more realistic. But my overall opinion on the movie still stands. Thank you for the response btw, I appreciate the discussion.

@@Demicleas The title itself I believe is a reference to a quote in the original book, though I haven't read it in a bit. As for the contents of the sequel, it's pretty much the same as the original story, only this time the Martians came prepared and don't die off two weeks after. Mind you it's not a carbon copy of events, but it's just similar enough that it's essentially a glorified retelling of the original book, just a decade later.
