This song, together with Lost in a dream I listen every night since my mother suddenly passed away october 9th. The monday after we brought her away and the monday following my second daughter was born. We named her after my mother, her name is Doris Louise. All the music of this great band helps me get me act together and be a dad and meanwhile missing my mother. It’s a blessed band

This is played with raw emotion. I don’t think this version can ever be replicated. The lyrics cut very close to the bone. Even the guitar solo is played with pure feeling. This guy is so talented. ❤

I think I've had a lot of fun diving into retrospective looks at older acts since I really got into The War on Drugs. I can't say TWoD is the only band that influenced that look back, but once I realized all sorts of bands I like now keep talking about Springsteen and Petty with a tone of reverence, it was a sign I had to go back and listen to those acts with more intent than I'd given them before when they were just part of the classic rock radio shuffle. One TWoD influence I rarely see pointed out though, Dire Straits. I don't know if Adam has ever verbally pointed out that as an influence, but something about the shared heartland guitar rock style is hard to miss.

I was sailin' down here on the wind When I met you and I fell away again Like a train in reverse down a dark road Carrying the whole load Just rattling the whole way home Have you fixed your eyes to the wind? Will you let it pull you in again? On the way back in? I’m a bit run down here at the moment Let me think about it babe Let me hold ya There’s a cold wind blowing down my old road Down the backstreets where the pines grow Where the river splits the undertows But I’d be lying to myself if I said that I didn’t mind Leave it hanging on a line Lost inside my head Is this the way I’ll be denied, again? So I'll set my eyes to the wind But it won’t be easy To leave it all again Just bit run down here There's just a stranger Living in me As you set your eyes to the wind And you see me pull away again haven't lost it on a friend I'm just bit run down here at the moment Yeah, I'm all alone here Living in darkness
