@@scarm_rune for those used to languages like C and C++, both Java and Rust are the same trash indeed 😌 . I may be more biased towards Java, but I can still see the parallels and I know where those lead to. In time, people will get fed of Rust and will come up with something "better", but by then many projects will be already stuck with it, making of Rust the next legacy language that will be target of widespread mockery.

Interesting piece of history. TBH, I wish the name Javascript was officially dumped. The confusion between Java and Javascript is far more widespread than the confusion of who owns the trademark, I believe.

Just another fact that makes one think the web is nothing but a big chaotic stitch of random stuff that happens to work. Meanwhile us developers and users have to try to survive in it and avoid going insane in the process.

Contrary to popular narrative, Java and JavaScript are not "entirely different". The ecosystems and implementations under the hood for each are vastly different. However, the basic syntax of both computer languages is based on C syntax, and you can write decent chunks of code complete with nested loops that run 100% unchanged in both Java and JavaScript.

@@DemPilafian I always thought it was more about the VMs the intermediate code ran on that related these two languages together. I mean the languages are just too different, any way you look at it. Typed vs not, oop vs not. K maybe garbage collection. Write once run anywhere (in a browser)? Yes, I also know Java also has a browser runtime. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter, because Java devs and JS devs live in different spaces. Even when they’re the same person 🤣

If there was a new modern browser that allowed developers to use a more simplified semantic HTML implementation, optimized how DOM elements are referenced by CSS, and allowed people to handle DOM interactivity with whatever programming language they want, EVERYONE would be happier.
