Yigal yadin Did not have an eye patch. Dude must have him confused with either captain Jack sparrow, Nick Fury or more likely Moshe Dayan

If the documents were so old, why were they brought to Qumran and stored in the caves?

He is claiming that 163 is when the contents of the war scroll were written, but not that the scroll was necessarily an original.

@paulallenscards - that makes sense. But why treating it as save-worthy document two hundred years later?

@@Achill101 while the notion that it was regarded as scripture is probably a stretch, it likely became seen as a source of authority given the success of the Maccabean revolt.

Because the dead scrolls moatly considered holy so the Jews didn't destroy old holy documents, they burried them

Russell: I am curious about assertions I have encountered that the Septuagint was entered into a catalog at Alexandria in 271 BC. I have seen a claim that there is no actual evidence for that, when you try to track it down, but just rumor and suppositions. Where did we get this date?

Seems like book of Daniel is about end of days and book of revelations is also about end of days. And seems like both about destruction of Jerusalem and temple. Not about god or Jesus coming out of heaven to rule and reign. And Dead Sea scrolls are part of temple library before temple destroyed and hidden away. Not separate writings

I am ptreteristish on both counts. Both Daniel and Revelations were written after all the things "revealed" had already happened.

Andre Dupont-Sommer concurred with Yigael Yadin about the Roman methods being addressed by the War Scroll. The DSS include the writings from two periods of sectarian occupation in the Judean wilderness with the earlier occupation being a group that did not include women. The War Scroll comes from this earlier group, but it was adopted by the later group who intended to fulfill its predictions. Gmirkin's observations pose no problem for this view of the War Scroll. The later group was very Maccabean in spirit, including its zeal for the Torah and its xenophobia and its expectations of purity so they could keep company with angels. Scrolls from the Maccabean period right through to the last days of the Second Temple are included in the DSS. The pesharim tell us what the later sectarians did and taught.

Teacher of Rightiousness = germanicus (cornelius), Wicked Priest = Seneca sons of darkness = Nicolaitans, sons of light = Elkanites (lost 'horny' boys), planets all as depicted at the Huqoq elephants mosaic ; the Axis mundi meets the Camillus on the road to damascus. Albinus (the tanner) and Festus (the feaster). Twin = tusks, horns, elks ; shiny ivory or wetted iron thus iron maiden ( Hymeneai ). (there is actually an H on their robes). Hymenaeus = light-bearer , planet. obviously the worthless Camillus (abdes) is to compare with the Belial (a total nut). The war-scroll is to date somewhere between the 1st (70) and 2nd (130) jewish war, that is to say around the year 100. It is the latest and last jewish profetic writing, obscure, non cannonized, hidden in some way but nevertheless we find the same ideas at 5th century Huqoq, thus the ideas were known for hundreds of years and even found their way into the quran (people of Ad, army of elephants). It were mainstream ideas before it faded away.

The "horny" boys??? How will the Essenes of Qumran get them to conform to the purity culture there? 🤷
