The British didn’t pull any punches with that re-creation footage at the beginning! I had no idea this existed! I guess they could get away with more since this was intended for a volunteer audience.

Easy to scoff in hindsight, but this is quite good and impactful for the period.

Don’t forget that tv 📺 sets in the home were not as commonplace as they are today, but you also needed a radio 📻 licence 🪪, and a dog license, but they were much more affordable than today.

@@allandavis8201 Don't forget that the Black and White telly licence was cheaper than the colour one, as was the Black and White dog licence.

How did they get the close up videos of the people right at the beginning?

My guess is it's mostly footage from the 1951 Japanese docu-drama "Hiroshima" which is said to be highly realistic.

It is strange that all of a sudden I am getting films like this pop up in my recommended list, I am sure it is coincidence but still strange nonetheless. With world tensions rising every day it wouldn’t take much to tip the world 🌎 into a major conflict or even WWIII, not that watching films like this would be any use, civil defence in the United Kingdom only applies to our leadership, the rich and famous and possibly some military units, the rest of us get to take our chances alone and without even basic equipment or knowledge about what to expect, perhaps WWIII would remain a conventional war, maybe tactical weapons used, but if it goes full MAD then, as the saying goes, “put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye”, the only consolation, the shelters that the super rich can afford, well they probably won’t make it through a single blast anyway. @ 9:12 the warden and the lady show just how things have changed since this was made, addressing each other as “Mr” or “Mrs” and when the little girl was told to go out and play she didn’t give her mum any “lip” (backchat). The one thing in this film that will never change is the selfishness, @ 25:29 when Mr White was tearing as strip off Mr Whatever it is a theme that all films like this have, people forget that by not doing their bit to protect themselves and their families they endanger so many others, and if they survived the initial blast they would want to leech off their neighbours, and profess their apologies for not listening………..TO LATE, YOU MADE YOUR BED 🛏️ NOW LAY IN IT. I have been racking my brains 🧠 to try and remember who the Newsreader was I think it was a guy called Richard Baker who was a very long term newsreader at the BBC but I am not sure, and the woman who listened to Mr White first looked a bit like a young Esther Rantsen, any one else got any different ideas?. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🇺🇦🇮🇱

No. There was no crisis that resulted in the Civil Defence Corps being called up. Not even during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
