I think if you want to see them rate a "9" for a live performance, you should watch Hell You Call A Dream live from the Pepsi Center CDMX in 2023. That one has Dany prancing around the stage like you want with her usual intensity, and you'll have to see Pau for yourself as it's a bit of a different performance than usual. Also, the verses are completely bass and drums, so you'll like that, especially the tuned-down distorted sound Ale is getting from the bass. As always, appreciate your honesty and experience.

I never expected a good band I like to go above expectations. I expect them to deliver the goods. The way they do it. The Warning does it. I don't know how they could exceed what they do on stage other than added pyros or props. So here out my judgment of them is controlled by their song making.

All the best!

Hear ya, David, but adding one thing - this concert was on the heels of their first North American tour, 20 months ago. First go 'round, they delivered powerfully and consistently, working up their live chops. It was just a few months prior to that when I saw Dany on a live stream, practicing her 'stage moves' and trying to figure out the best way to integrate her hand gestures with her guitar playing (she loves to talk with her hands, lol). She was actually asking viewers for feedback! Throughout their career, their craft has constantly evolved. Though together ten years, they're a relatively young live act on the big stage. My hunch is that with more experience and even greater confidence, we will see even bigger bursts of creativity and spontaneity on stage. Seeing them perform in person (I have, six times) I still can't get enough of their energy!

The next step for me is seeing them perform a full production showcase, so I pulled the trigger and will be seeing them 2/6/25 at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. This venue has a capacity of 10,000 and sold out the day sales opened to the general public. I was able to get fairly good seats at the presale. They opened a second date on 2/11/25 so this is an option for those who missed out on getting tickets for the first show.

I understand your rationale for rating their performance based on your past experience with the song and your high expectations for them. My question is what more do you think they could do (especially as a 3-piece) to exceed your expectations? Their stage presence and charisma live blows most people (and many other bands) away. To me, a 7.7 performance by TW would be a 9 for many other bands.

I'm still buzzing from seeing them live in person for the first time on Monday, which _did_ exceed my (already high) expectations because I got to see how well Dany's performance - which looks a bit exaggerated on a YT video - is perfectly pitched to a live venue. Of course, that will become part of my expectations for next time I see them. In any case, par for them is a pretty high bar, so your score seems entirely fair to me!

I dunno man, these performances at Teatro, including this one have a lot more energy than I have seen in other live shows, maybe with the exception of the Pepsi Center show last year. This was a two night sold out show and I know they fed off the energy of the crowd. They did it in Europe this tour, feed off the energy of the crowds. I saw them in San Fransisco at the Fillmore and they were great, but these Teatro shows even though I wasn't there live that there is a difference in energy. Perhaps it's the great audio mix and it was a bigger stage show that gave it that extra oomph. But for me, expectation is exceeded here from my perspective. Good score non-the-less.

It's gonna be VERY interesting to see performances out of next year's performance at the Nacional in front of an even larger crowd. This was pretty much a first for them. Not only was it at the tail end of their first "proper" tour, it was their first time on such a big stage, to a larger headline audience. The stage presence, especially for Dany, has improved massively since this show (saw them in Berlin) but it's been smaller shows recently, with a more direct connection. There's also a reason, I suppose, Animosity didn't make the cut for the current set list.

Interesting take. It is rather concerning though that someone has to come up with so many disclaimers before analyzing a band so their fanbase won't get mad. I'm a big fan of The Warning myself but I don't want to join a cult. By the way I fully agree with your reaction and score. The girls are VERY professional (more than many musicians, even older) but their live act is lacking a bit of spark, something special and mind-blowing. I feel like every show is a carbon copy of the other and the reason for that might be the fact that they are a 'method' band. They literally studied how to play, record and become rockstars. It's hard to shake that off and all method musicians seem to be obsessed with sound perfection rather than spontaneity and feeling. If The Warning can fix this issue, their game will skyrocket.
@balthusT17 ай бұрын
Seven 'blocks' is not a cult - its seven disrespectful people going all keyboard warrior. To be fair, the TWA as a whole is very supportive of reactors but like all groups - a few bad apples (some not even could be considered TWA). If I thought DH was being a prick, I sure as hell wouldn't have subbed - but he is just being honest. And I think its sad that he needs to put a disclaimer (or multiple disclaimers) for a band he has 50 reactions/analysis for. As for TW - remember this was 1 and a half years ago. There really isn't much they can do to change the performance (unlike some others like Survive and Choke) from the same concert (Teatro Met 2022). But like DH has also stated - they are evolving, experimenting with sound, stage, presence and now . . . pyrotechnics???? (Automatic Sun from Tecate). The VMAs Evolve shows just how far they have progressed in a year, and HYCaD from Pepsi and a year and a half. I never considered them a method band (interesting term) - they mix it up lyrically and instrumentally, and have evolved as they've gotten older. If it isn't broken, no need to fix it (for their older catalog) but they are also continuing to mature and evolve. As for spontaneity and feeling - I believe they have that in spade (a number of good examples is shown in 'The Errors of the Error Tour' which DH has reacted to and gave a pretty high score (for reasons he explained in the vid) - a pure method band would have been lost with most of those instances. But as you also say, that could juts be because they are VERY good performers, and IMO consummate artists across the board. Please note this is not an attack, rather an open opinion on your statements. Cheers from OZ

Great reaction as always (and 8.7 is fine by me), though I can't help but be disappointed that your process won't allow you to try their newer songs. Now I know you're tired of adjusting and readjusting the process, but I have one teeny, tiny, little suggestion: rerolls. I'm not sure how you randomly select songs for the Patreon polls (I assume it's not drawing tickets out of a box), BUT how about this: when you draw a band that's actively producing new music, and you've heard the song before (regardless of the specific performance) you do a another random draw on that band alone until you see a song you haven't heard before (again, regardless of specific performance) and put THAT one in the poll instead. Put a specific limit on the number of rerolls per draw so you don't go nuts pushing the button a hundred times in a row. This way, you get to hear new(er) music and so do we. BTW, I only recently realized the "You watch your ass" from your opening is from Blazing Saddles; I always assumed it was the Three Stooges...

A 7.7 hmmmm - a very fair call methinks. But, as you say, herein lies the problem - you have experienced them live yourself, you have watched their growth and, again as you mentioned, they have set you have a very high bar for expectation. You know what to expect, and if they delivered less than that, then I also think that you may score them unfairly on that performance. But attempting to exceed expectation becomes near impossible (especially on earlier performances), and I also think that you would score them much higher because of that. I had a look through you catalog of reactions for The Warning performances from the 2023 VMAs (More and Evolve) - played live in 1 take each to a crowd who literally had no idea who they were.
