Never since then have I had that feeling, like I did back in the day with Springsteen in classic rock and Blink in punk, until now with The Warning. I'm running around and talking about them non-stop. I went to their concert in Münster, Germany, and it was brilliant. I immediately bought tickets for Cologne in 2025. This might sound strange but as a French, I'm not always listening too closely to the lyrics of the songs I listen to in other languages (even if I understand english and spanish). But music has the power to transmit emotions even to people who don't get the meaning of a song. I personnally only try to really understand the songs I love the most. With the Warning, I'm happy to have so many songs I want to understand better. So I feel lucky to be able to discover most of their songs twice: when I hear them for the first time, then when I listen closely and read the lyrics. Now there is at least a third time for some songs: when I see DPA react to the crowd singing along. And this concert is really special with that amazing crowd!

Its hard to believe that 13 year old Paulina Villarreal Velez composed this song in 2015, which moves listeners to tears. Such is the melancholy of her poetry. Such is the pathos in her delivery. In a parallel world, Pau would have won numerous literary awards by dint of profound metaphorical poetry she had been writing since she was a child. She would have been felicitated as an emerging young intellectual. Singing as an addict, Pau shuns away her loved ones so as not to cause them further harm. The opening verse itself is stunning in terms of maturity as a poet at such an young age "All alone in an alleyway Staring at my face In the reflections of broken bottles Didn't know I had this many scars I thought I'd won All of my different battles" The phrase "broken bottles" tells us that this is about alcoholism. Pau added the word "reflections" to hint at introspection by the addict. She wrote Black Holes after reading an article about addiction & alcoholism. Although the romantic theory is that she wrote it when a family friend succumbed to alcoholism. "Don't hold on, don't hold on I surrender in my defeat" - poignant, so poignant. I wonder whether Shakespeare, had he been a Gen Z like Pau, would have used imageries like "Was shattered like a satellite" & "And the venom starts to swallow me whole; Like black holes". Satellites & Black Holes were unknown in his times, of course.
@Indo10303 ай бұрын
I have always wondered about the alleyway and the broken bottles. Is she (or he)-the addict-simply in an alley perhaps after (or before) shooting up (the ‘alley’ being a place where people go to do such things) and, sees his/her own reflection in the bottles strewn about the alley by others who are fighting their own addictions/demons…throws away the telephone because he/she doesn’t want to call for help-feels he/she’s beyond help Or, as you suggested, the bottles are from the person singing is an alcoholic with the same struggle and the reflections themselves are brought about by their addiction. We know that they write their songs with the intention that there can be many interpretations. The ONLY other musician who made me think so much about every lyric was Professor Neil Peart. I have a feeling that he smiles down on her every time he hears one of her songs

POR FAVOR incluyan ésta canción en una película para que la nominen al Óscar y gane. Es increíblemente hermosa... MERECE un premio de ese calibre.
@mariaisabelrodriguezsaa38833 ай бұрын

@@mrc666caFun fact. She wrote this at 13. Kate Bush wrote The Man With the Child in his Eyes at 13. Pau likes at least one Kate Bush song to my knowledge - Baboushka. 😊

Im just lost of words... The last time I felt like this - everything they do is beyond EVERYTHING - was when Guns and Roses released Use your Illusions 1 and 2... I may have been wrong on Guns... But I tell you: This band will be THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD... FOR DECADES TO COME!!! This is even bigger than Ace Frehley, Lady Gaga and Keith Richards... And I don't say that lightly... Thanx for sharing 🙏 Love from Sweden 💖

We have been waiting for this and for Breathe ever since they started to release individual performances from Pepsi. Fan vids, no matter how well filmed could never approach how emotional these two performances are, the visuals, the audio, THE CROWD SINGING. EVERY TIME I hear this performance (and I've watched it a dozen times since it was released) tears fall - not just the song, the lyrics, the gorgeous piano and strings but Pau's face at 48 seconds . . . . . Professionalism live is near dead with modern performances. Pepsi is the epitome of professionalism in a band's performance - every track from this concert. performed by 3 young women who are each ill with the flu (and Pau worse of all) exudes PROFESSIONALISM. To every other band who offer excuses, who refuse to perform when sick, who temper tanty when things don't go their way (and many of them are recognised big or mega artists) - learn what true professionalism is. Watch these performances, hear the audience 'feed' DPA, and smile as you realise these women, and others like them, are the future of a profession that you have nigh forsaken with your belief that you are above in your egos. (Semi rant over) Thank you for doing this release of Pepsi CDMX - now I'm going to go and tear up some more . . . Cheers from OZ 🦘

Because of those demons being so real to a lot of us, some have conquered and beat them but to some of us it is a constant struggle, a fierce war within and outside yet never giving up. And if my eyes have to rid of thousands of tears through this song, it'll be worth every single one to win the fight of our lives. God bless The Warning DPA Goddesses! Thank Pau!!!!!!!

This has got to be the best performance of "Black Holes" to date. The vocals weren't perfect, but they didn't need to be. Actually, it's better that they weren't. The crowd singing the words with just Pau playing the piano was just amazing. The entire performance gave me major goose bumps. The production quality of this video is also off the charts. And then the strings for the background with the piano. Absolutely stunning. This is a classic Warning song for a reason. When The Warning are inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, this will be one of the featured songs. And by that point, they'll have hundreds of songs in their portfolio. Absolutely epic. I really, really need to see them live before I'm completely priced out of the ticket price.
