This 2022 Enter Sandman video was actually my introduction to The Warning...about a week and a half ago now. I immediately became interested in checking out their other stuff and have come to learn that a lot of people first found them through Enter Sandman, but a much earlier version. Working backwards through their KZbin uploads and watching them all shrink was wild, but even some of their earliest stuff is quite enjoyable listening.

Wave…Pau’s harmonies in this version are so in your face amazing. The feel they’ve given their version is so sinister and haunting but yet so beautiful. Dany’s vocals? Awesome. Did you catch Ale’s backing singing “grain of sand” during the prayer? Love that Ale’s vocals were finally higher in the mix. They SLAYED this. It’s their song now.

They grew a lot last summer when they were touring with Halestorm and the difference showed during these two concerts at Teatro Metropolitan. But I think they gained a lot of confidence and swagger by playing at this venue as it is a historic venue where it is an honor for Mexican artists to perform. And they sold out two shows there playing before 3000+ in the audience each time. You could see the difference in the fall when they toured again with Halestorm and then in the late fall when they toured in Canada with Three Days Grace. Toward the end of their fall tour with Halestorm, Arejay Hale came out to perform on drums with TW for Narcisista freeing Pau to come out front and play diva. During their Canadian tour with 3DG Dany came out to perform vocals on Painkiller. So, yeah, if there was any doubt before, they have become legitimate Rock Stars in the past year. Most touring bands know who they are by now. And for their headlining shows for the US this year Plush and Holy Wars are opening for them. How cool is that? They are having their own female-fronted/all-female band tour.

It was a huge honor when Muse asked them to open 4 dates in their home country, which they had done for several other big groups, but it's an even bigger honor for Muse to have them open five dates in Europe this summer. The girls are going to get MASSIVE exposure from the old school European music press who are more receptive to new talent than the US corporate media, and the Muse fan base will hopefully create enough buzz to generate a big bump in sales.

Wave, thanks for coming back to this song. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troups, shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. OMG, I never knew I needed these riffs in half time. So powerful. This version when played live has a huge impact on the crowd. It took them a while to really figure out how to do it, but man oh man, do they have it dialed in now. I really think that learning from Lzzy help Dany's vocals a ton. I saw them play their version in Arkansas (supporting Halestorm) a couple weeks before this video was shot. It left 6000 people breathless. There were many many new Warneros (those who have been warned) I talked to after the Arkansas show. The video from this show is mind-blowingly good. I think it is now in my top-10 favorite live recordings of all time. (Queen @ Wembly, Rush @ Rio, Who Live @ Leeds, Nightwish @ Wacken, Talking Heads Stop Making Sense, Johnny Cash @ Folsom Prison are others)

Then they went on vacation and when they came back their dad's mailbox was flooded and the number of views was insane. This was when the girls understood how much they liked the feedback on their video and they just wanted to play more and more.

I just noticed a couple weeks ago that James Hetfield ALSO played an Explorer and you see it on at least one or two album covers. Ya having all the mirrors in their home studio was an invaluable tool for their stage presence, I think. I wonder if that was something their engineer dad came up with, because that was a really smart idea. If you just sit still and play when you're practicing, you're basically just practicing for the recording studio, not the live performance. But if you can see yourself playing and can actually work on how you look while you're playing, then you're practicing for putting on a show.
@robertott1172 Жыл бұрын
I think the mirrors in The Cave are part of their successful stage presence. But added to that was 100+ live shows adding to their confidence, along with all the exposure of watching how the bands they toured with performed on stage.

Hey Wave! I am so grateful that they are coming to my city, Atlanta, again this year (3rd time in 12 months)! This time as headliner (with Plush!) in a larger venue, but still about half the size of the theater in this video. AND, I have meet and greet VIP tickets! I am sure having a larger stage and stage setup, along with them honing their stage skills after 100 shows last year will make this tour incredible!! Oh, and BTW, Wave, 2 days later, at the same venue, I am going to see ... Band-Maid!!! Best month of May EVER!

When this live version of Enter Sandman was released a month back I had commented about confusions that the videography created by focussing on Ale at certain times. She had mainly surfed the lower range in this song; at times almost inaudible when Pau had come in with her vocals along with the backing track of Alessia. We can distinguish all 4 singers by their tonal textures. In 1st iteration of "Hush now baby..." Ale's low utterings are distinctly heard on right side under Dany's melody. 2nd Iteration - Pau comes in with her earthy raspiness staying mainly within Dany's powered up grit. Ale is still there but almost inaudible as Alessia's crooning is introduced subtly along with Pau & Ale's ethereal harmonies from the original video. 3rd iteration - Pau ramps up the power at a higher range and we need to really strain ourselves to hear Ale's voice here. Its barely there in the mix. Thankfully in Disciple the video editing team focussed on singers relevant to the vocals heard. Pau had taken background harmonies to the next level in this concert, specially in this song. She had ramped up power on top of Dany, in various intensities & scale as demanded by the song. She had almost sung the entire melody here!!!
@markgossman9350 Жыл бұрын
In the 3rd iteration I think the high part is Ale's falsetto not Pau, which is why the camera is on Ale. In the live version of Disciple Ale is doing the high part of the chorus, it's in the studio version too just not as noticeable as the live.
@MrSudeepdas Жыл бұрын
@@markgossman9350 As I said before the camera work in Enter Sandman has confused viewers. In Disciple the video editing team was more accurate. In 3rd iteration it is the raspy power of Pau that ramps up on top of Dany's increasing grit. Ale is still in the low range which is almost inaudible. The reason they focussed on her. While in Disciple we can clearly hear Ale's smooth falsetto riding along with Dany as you noted.
@robertott1172 Жыл бұрын
@Mark Gossman , it was definitely Pau. The high harmony continues even when Ale is nowhere near her microphone. Also, the high harmonies are from the same singer throughout the song, and it was Pau's distinctive voice.

@@robertott1172 yes pau was singing higher than Dany but We were only focusing on the 3rd iteration of the HUSH Little Baby section @ 3:02 in the live official video. it sounds like Ale's falsetto to me

Ale has finally grown into her role as a rock goddess. When she was a gawky kid in her teens, she played bass fine but looked like she was putting on an act as far as her behavior. It seems like she's actually feeling the music as well as playing it. She's got confidence and swagger now.

There are songs from The Warning that I wasn't a huge fan of when I heard the studio version, then absolutely loved when I saw a live performance of it. What they have done with this is nothing short of brilliant. I think it's simply a much better song than the original, and they can do things vocally that very few bands can hope to match. The way Dany goes from angry defiance in the recitative immediately to the gentle first "hush" phrase, through the majestic buildup into the final furious riff, which of course they don't simply copy either, is simply breathtaking.

To me, what happens here, is that since they are not collaborating with Alessia, who is a pop artist, they can unleash the beast, which confirms to me that, if they would have done the cover by themselves, it would have been even better and it was already by far the best one on the Blacklist album.

I didn’t like the original version of this arrangement, but once I heard it live without Alessia (aside from the backing track), the song clicked. No disrespect to Alessa, but her voice doesn’t have the edge that I look for in rock and metal. Regarding Ale, I’ve always had the impression that she has the widest vocal range of the three. It’s hard to tell since she so rarely does distinguishable vocals, but if they need a high harmony, they usually go to her. I’d love if she sang lead more. I know it’s her choice and I respect that, but it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.
@robertott1172 Жыл бұрын
Pau sang all the prominent high harmonies in this song. Ale sang the low harmonies. Frankly, Ale's harmonies are recorded so low that they hardly contribute to the song. Maybe it's intentional so her vocals don't clash with Dany's and Pau's vocals, but what's the point of having her sing if her voice can't be heard?

I would also like to hear and see Ale sing as a leader. and I respect her decision, but since she is the youngest, just to this day her voice is maturing and her change has been more drastic than the change in voice of Dany and Pau, so in some of her live performances she has been exposed Due to these changes and considering her character and perfectionism and the fact that she is still a teenager, I think that she lacks some security to take the lead but she enjoys singing and it shows that she sings away from the microphone while playing so now that she has grown up She will gain more confidence and I hope that one day she will surprise us by recording a song as the main voice, that is my hope, but she will be the one who decides.
