Thank you so much Catherine. I listened to this lovely story on what would have been our 32nd. wedding anniversary. My dear husband died two months ago of dementia. We loved each other dearly.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My day job is in disability care and I'm currently working with some early onset dementia patients: it's a terrible illness and I think in a lot of ways it's harder on those left behind. I hope this brought you a little comfort.
@chrisberry9017 Жыл бұрын
Indeed it did my friend! I actually feel closer to Alan than I’ve done for some time. The illness was masking who he truly is. Thankfully Alan had already lived a very full and rewarding life before the dementia started in his mid seventies, and he was very much loved by the staff at the care home. The experience has certainly taught me a great deal, which hopefully I can use to benefit others. Your writing is a joy! Thank you.@@cathbilson

@@cathbilson you did better than that my dear it is a very soothing comforting smooth movement along with the narration and the wonderful story itself it is so much better than looking at a flat image of a book cover on the screen it gives a feeling of being there well done

This is the third story by Catherine Bilson I have listened to and they have all been very enjoyable. In my opinion they are all very well written and well narrated by her. She just seems to have the knack of striking a balance so that even though you know it’s fiction it seems believable and of course the main point is it has always been an enjoyably entertaining listen.

Oh, thank you so much! I like to think I'm a study of character and I try hard to make the characters I'm writing about believable by asking myself the hard questions. Given everything we know about this character, what would a reasonably sensible and intelligent person DO in this situation? Way too many times I've tossed a book aside in frustration because 'nobody would react like that!' My ultimate goal is for nobody to have that reaction when reading one of MY books.

Are Abigail and Tobias siblings? Who did they marry in a double wedding? Is Hiram Abigail's husband? Who is Tobias' wife? Is Mrs. Pascow "Birdie" from another book? This is an excellent story. It's funny too!❤

Isn’t there a sequel to this? If so, I would love to know what it is it seems I have read one where EB or another lady finally gets mixed up in the towns business.
@cathbilson Жыл бұрын
The novella was in a multi-author boxed set called Sweet Secrets of Swain Cove, which is a 'shared world', so lots of the characters were shared across them. If you read the set (or the companion set, which was... I think Saucy Secrets of Swain Cove or something similar) there might well have been a story which shared some common elements!

Have to say the narrator/author did a pretty good job on this book. Needs to practice her mans voice but otherwise okay. Way better than the AI readings which mostly I can't stand even on really good books.

She is wonderful! Author AND narrator- she is awesome, for she knows her characters well! Wouldn’t you say?

Agree with the man’s voice.
@twinnish Жыл бұрын
A man is not usually going to successfully do a female voice and a woman cannot fully successfully do a man’s voice, but I’m definitely getting the sense of it and I think the author narrator did a great job
@marshawargo72388 ай бұрын
I Do Not listen if it's AI😠!!! I do prefer a male & female duo, But This author/narrator is Great❤!!!
@birkethaumuller-grobler78268 ай бұрын
I think the narrator has an exceptional talent in the way she can change her voice to such ranges to give each character their voice and still keep her own voice as the narrator seperate. And for a woman to constantly talk in such a rough voice is no small feat as it strains the vocal chords quite a lot and yet...she still does and still manages to jump back to a female tone in a second. When I read to my boy, I often get so confused to just get the voices straight when required.

Surely a Cornishman would not have a Welsh first name.
@cathbilson8 ай бұрын
You do realise that Cornwall and Wales are separated by only a fairly narrow stretch of water? And they're both Celtic nations? Lots of names in common with only slight variations of spelling.
@birkethaumuller-grobler78268 ай бұрын
What is in a name? Surely not location, right? I have a very German name (though hardly used as a girl's name in Germany), was born in South Africa and raised in Namibia...where I met one single person who was unfortunately blessed with the same name. Surely, Namibia is a right far distance away from Germany, so location surely is irrelevant in a name unless it is of geographical purpose. People move about.
