This song is amazing because it reminds me of a beautiful wife I had for 30 years and then lose her to cancer. She convinced me we could build a house on the west coast of Scotland and held my hand as I was scared of it and then held my hand again in starting our business as I was petrified convincing me we could do it. The words are so true and the greatest love of my life will always be in my heart.

I'm a 19 year old artist, studying animation and scriptwriting in college. When my dad was driving me to one of my classes once, he put this song playing and said "this one's for you!". I knew the song already, because he always played it to me as a kid, but I never understood the lyrics until that moment in the car. My eyes swelled with tears. This song, along with many others from this amazing group, have touched me and my childhood so much. This song specifically means the world to me

I lost my husband suddenly 10 months ago and I didn't think listening to this song that I knew before I knew him would break me, but actually listening to the lyrics, my heart is breaking again for the loss of him. He did know how to dream big and strive, despite his own battles with depression. I miss that so much. I saw the crescent; he saw the whole of the moon.

I pictured a rainbow You held it in your hands I had flashes But you saw the plan I wandered out in the world for years While you just stayed in your room I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon Hmm, you were there in the turnstiles, with the wind at your heels You stretched for the stars and you know how it feels to reach too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon I was grounded While you filled the skies I was dumbfounded by truth You cut through lies I saw the rain dirty valley You saw Brigadoon I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon I spoke about wings You just flew I wondered, I guessed and I tried You just knew I sighed But you swooned, I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon with a torch in your pocket and the wind at your heels You climbed on the ladder and you know how it feels to get too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon The whole of the moon, hey yeah! Unicorns and cannonballs, palaces and piers Trumpets, towers and tenements Wide oceans full of tears Flags, rags ferryboats Scimitars and scarves Every precious dream and vision Underneath the stars, yes, you climbed on the ladder With the wind in your sails You came like a comet Blazing your trail too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon

I lost my mother unexpectedly this year. 54 years too young and too good for this world. She saw the whole of the moon. When I went on exchange to Europe and was nervous leaving her she said to just look up at the moon because she’d be staring at it too. I miss you mummy

Great song, I remember stopping in my tracks, when I first heard it. How often does that happen nowadays? However, I would say, in terms of "uniqueness," Kate Bush's "Running up That Hill," gives it a run, IMO! 😉

I've always loved this song & the story the lyrics are telling, which I am guessing is about two friends, one gained a lot out of life whilst the other friend is lamenting & regretting about 'playing it safe', or he was just plain unlucky not to have the same kind of success that his friend enjoyed. I think Mohammed Ali once said something to the effect of "Those who don't take risks will never accomplish anything in life".

Ditto. All I can say is, thank God for a little-known, low-power radio station just outside of Annapolis, MD, called "WHFS". They played music like this all day long. I discovered them late one Sunday night on a cold winter's evening and was amazed. "HFS" was so low-powered when I discovered them that you could only pick them up late on Sunday night's for some reason. I would make it a point to stop whatever I was doing around 11PM on Sunday's and dial them in, listening intently, almost desperately, for the faint signal that, for me, represented salvation, hope and rescue. It was as if a window, long closed, shuttered and curtained, had been opened just a crack, to give me and only me a precious glimpse into a wonderously kaleidoscopic world of vibrant colors, feelings, emotions and, above all else, LOVE!!!! In time, HFS boosted up its power to where it could be heard like any other station in the DC area, and the secret was out. But still they played great music for many years until they eventually went commercial and the pop lineup took over. Until then, HFS was the secret handshake amongst kindred spirits. If you heard the station's call letters or one of the DJ's names mentioned in a conversation, you knew you were speaking with someone who was COOL!!!
