Great video! Hopefully, we can see that union station rebuilt for the streetcars soon, which they should've thought of right when the new streetcars first came out, but i would love to see the extension to villers island happen soon 🙏🏽

Excellent video! Hopefully, the Cherry St. infill station on the Ontario Line / GO happens, as it could reduce the need to renovate the Union Streetcar terminal, which is the most expensive part of this project. The Waterfront East LRT should be started ASAP, and reducing costs and disruption (which the Union upgrade is driving up) could make it much easier to get the project funded.

Our politicians are STILL twiddling their thumbs on funding this project. Its so demoralizing for Toronto’s transit future
@billyehh6 ай бұрын
There is a problem. It is called lack of money. This a TTC project, not metrolinx. The rebuilding of Union Station and the portal for the east bound streetcar is estimated at over 2 BILLION dollars. According to growth projections, when fully built, the proposed 3.8 kilometre WELRT project will provide over 50,000 daily trips. The 501 and 504 streetcars need upgrading of signaling and they provide over 130,000 daily boardings. Line 2 which has over 500,000 boardings needs new signaling and soon will need new trains. None of this is funded. I feel that we should get existing infrastructure in a state of good repair before looking at a new streetcar.

@@billyehh "Existing infrastructure in good repair". In August I'm wondering if you wrote your comment before or after the July 16 deluge of rain that caused massive disruption to the city including major flooding of Union Station that led to it being shut down, events that made transit users wonder how Union Station could suffer such problems after so much money was spent on renovating the station.

Another great video! It might be too late to say, but I wish they could've had a branch from the Ontario Line to go directly to the Port lands. It would've made it even easier to access the Port lands
@transitthinker8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Not sure if a branch is even needed as a station at Cherry would probably do the job

I went to the Ontario Line community office on Queen Street a block west of the GO/VIA bridge. The girl there said that she does not know of any plans to have the Broadview streetcar connect to the East Harbourfront LRT. If it is going to be done, then the engineers better design an underpass under the railway now while the chance is in hand. It would be much more difficult in the future, when there are 6 running tracks through the East Harbourfront station. Aarre Peltomaa of Mississauga, Ontario

Well done TT, keep the videos coming. Wish the province funded this first instead of the Line 1 extention to Richmond Hill.

Thanks, the Yonge North Subway Extension definitely has its merits but it'd be nice to see this project move a bit faster as well

I really hope that, in addition to the eastern extension - which is really needed - that they extend the waterfront LRT west from exhibition (to Dufferin at least) to serve the dense communities in Parkdale and High Park. As it is now the Ontario Line + the Waterfront LRT + Bathurst tram will all terminate at Exhibition with no way to get further west, aside from the GO Train, which will only take you to Mimico and Long Branch etc… good for long distance but not for a local service. The Union / Queens Quay rebuild is going to be a nightmare - but I think we should build the 509 extension (east and west) while the rebuild takes time. A small shuttle bus can be used to run people to Union if they lack the mobility to walk the 5 mins to Union. It’s not perfect, but we shouldn’t let perfect be the enemy of making improvements in the coming couple years. I’d definitely also rebrand the tramway as “T-1” or something similar to distinguish it from the trams (aka streetcars) that don’t run on their own right of way. They’re ostensibly the same as Finch (Line 6) and Eglinton (Line 5). One could call it Line 7 - but I would go for T1 for Harbourfront; T2 for Spadina; T5 or T7 for St Clair (assuming that a T3 will go in on King or Queen in future).

You know, the waterfront east LRT is only going to be a few km long, making it even more crazy how long it takes to get it done.

DF's business partner developers from Chicago have their eyes on Exhibition Place and the now closed and empty Ontario Place. A new subway line going to nowhere is currently being built. It goes to an empty Ontario Place!
@Vortexone1128 ай бұрын
How could you possibly say the Ontario line goes to nowhere. Every stop has massive ridership projections (including exhibition, which I don’t know if you noticed serves Liberty village, the exhibitions grounds, and the TFC/argos stadium - in addition to the future Ontario place expansion)

The Province owns Ontario Place, but Exhibition Place is owned by the city.
