Thanks for keeping the ocean sound. Wow. My palms sweat even thinking about getting caught inside that set. It is amazing no one was killed. Hats off the jet ski folks.
@OffDaLip2 күн бұрын
Yea, chalk that up to the experience of the surfers out there. They handled it well and the skis were immediately on it

I wonder if the guy @1:39 made it over or got sucked back over the falls. I love the sound of the big boulders rattling around together underwater when you get held down and a wave passes over. There were no jet skis back in the day to come and get you.

The summer of my Fourteenth year I spent in Hawaii at friends of my dad’s, surfing. I stayed out all day and as late as 11:30 pm. One of the best parts of it, was how the older guys accepted me, and treated me like one of their friends. Surfers are great people.

Amazing footage!🌊 We were fortunate to spend NYE week on our favorite Island of Oahu. NS always reminds me these surfers might as well be no a different planet... Running back & forth between T&C, we got to body surf inside Waimea earlier in the day before it got too big... The macker sets started rolling in after 1pm, our 16yo son got caught inside on one & learned a great lesson - remain calm, although his brain, chest & stomach are screaming WTF am I DOing out here!! Made it up to Pipe for the cleanest biggest Pipe we ever witnessed live. The steepest biggest drop in came from the surfer with a yellow helmet who we thought was JOB... After 2 massive vertical Pipe bombs, the surfer came in with a snapped leash - low & behold with only 1 arm we knew who it was. My wife is a big fan & got a photo with Bethany Hamilton - next time I am complaining about my aches & pains while surfing will think of that insane moment!

Sight to see, cannot imagine unless your there watching when that much water comes up across that bay. I've seen it come close, but never all the way across...crazy when that size wave hits jump rock and the water crashes higher than the rock🤯

Yea, this was the only wave that did it. Very rare to happen, but this was pretty much the peak of the swell. Perfect Eddie day

I wonder what's smarter- paddling toward the wave, standing on your board briefly and diving, or not even trying to meet it and just swimming down? Not that I'll ever find out....
@roblentz813 күн бұрын
Personally, on anything that’s bigger than double overhead I will dive down from standing on my board if possible. Penetrating deeper does help to keep the suction from pulling you over the falls backwards, ass over teakettle.
@jeanbaptisteemmanuelzorg59113 күн бұрын
The suits make it hard to dive deep enough. It’s mostly a relax your sphincter and flex your diaphragm situation lol

@TheezeDaze2 күн бұрын
We used to scream and yell to reduce tension, paddle to try avoid being in the worst place, then dive for the bottom, hopefully soon enough to not get grabbed. Often all for naught. Trying to hang on to your board usually doesn't work out either. The screaming and yelling did seem to help. Lots 🤣 OH FFFFFFFFF_ _ _ _ _ _ KKKK!!!!! or just an AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! will suffice.

Can't imagine the feeling of paddling over a wave and seeing that.
It just goes to show the limitations of Waimea. Mavericks would have handled that wave with ease, as would Jaws and maybe one or two others. Don't get me wrong, it's a massive challenge to go out there and ALL kudos to people who take it on but it is in no way, shape or form a great big wave spot.
@OffDaLip3 күн бұрын
Waimea is the best place to watch large waves, and that's why the Eddie is the best event in surfing. But you're correct, Jaws was bigger this day and this swell then unloaded on Mavericks, showing bigger waves as well. However Waimea Bay is built like a natural stadium and you'll never find a surfing event with the energy of The Eddie

Surf Entertainment has slipped. Seemed to go away with the internet. You guys need to put together a new movie. Like a real one - not just surfing.
