North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong used many varieties of weapons during the Vietnam War. Various types of WW2 weapons of American, British, Japanese, German and Russian origins were used in large numbers. American soldiers encountered many Viet Congs armed with WW2 German weapons. The Soviets had millions of captured German weapons kept under storage until they were given the North Vietnam and the Viet Congs. They may be 20 to 30 years old but were still deadly and effective. They were rechambered to use Soviet ammunitions as the original ones got used up. The Soviets also supplied both North Vietnam and the Viet Congs their own outdated WW2 weapons.

And for another conflict as interesting as the Vietnam war. The Arab Israeli wars had just as much variety. The Egyptian army had their own copies of various weapons such as Swedish K/45 SMGs (Port Said), M3 Grease Guns (Akaba). the Swedish AG/42 semi auto rifle (the Hakim chambered in 7.92x57 Mauser, and the Rasheed chambered in 7.62x39), the Mosin Nagant (ZG-51) and AKM (Maadi ARM). They were supplied ten times more than the North Vietnamese by the USSR The Jordanian army was a unique blend of WW2 British equipment and American weapons like the M2 Carbines and M1 Garand rifles

@@rogerthat4545 yet in 1973 the United States withdrew that's 5 years of breaking the American spirit while being a ineffective fighting force. The NVA went on to invade Cambodia and then also drive the Chinese out of their country. Bottom line the Vietnam War never should have happened the US was sending American boys to die for a corrupt military dictatorship that wasn't communist from a corrupt dictatorship that was. The American people did not want the war the Vietnamese people did not want the war. The only people that did were companies like Bell Aircraft. You missed out the SKS and also most importantly, the M1 Carbine which, surprisingly, the Viet Congs loved it alot. The Viet Congs got alot of M1 Carbines from the French after they left and they used it extensively across the 1960s. It was light, easy to move around with due to its short length and with a 15rnd magazine, it was enough to do work with it, fire during ambushes and get out. Coupled with the fact that the ARVN forces of that time were using the M2 Carbine which essentially was an M1 Carbine with selective fire and a default 30rnd mag, the VC could pick up ammo from dead ARVN soldiers and utilize everything that they picked up which was a massive perk. SKS or whatever variants that they got, was another rifle that the NVA and VC utilized alot. Despite the length, it made hitting targets beyond 200m easier as its semi automatic thus you in theory can place more shots on target with more accuracy than an incontrollable AK or any of its variant. However, the AK was still preferred but that doesn't mean that the SKS didn't get used alot. ALSO, you got the whole pistol thing wrong. The VC did not get alot of Makarovs but more of the TT-33 instead. The TT-33 was cheaper to make at this point of time and with it still somehow being the standard pistol for most communist bloc countries at this point, it was woefully cheap to make thus everyone made it and heaps were sent to Vietnam from China, North Korea, Russia itself and many Eastern European countries like Yugoslavia and such. Not only that, the shoots just as fine thus many was given to the VC instead and the more expensive Makarov was technically mostly only used by the NVAs until the early 70s that more and more got in then some trickled down to the VCs but more of the VC still used the TT-33 as they used more of the 7.62x25mm Tokarev rounds for their submachine guns like the PpsH and the PPS-43 that they used for ambushes.

Very hard to say “AK47 better than M16”, During doming Wars. No support form Jimmy Carter Ronal Regan Thai have support form Chaina , Thai special force( like Vietnam sapper) choose AK47 to fight to Vietnam. Thailand win communism rebel win Domino war and we also win L - operation those wars were big support form Soviet Russia.
