For all intents and purposes, Rip isn't a dumb good ol' boy. He might as well be a resident biologist and possibly a perfect judge of human character. Maybe that's what a true cowboy is. Beth can't stand horses. There's always a veil between their respective occupations. It's not really 'opposites attract' so much as people of great skill in what they do coming together. Also the first love thing, of course. It's a shit series but I love it.
