#TheWeaver is mom I think she was 80 this year or maybe next. She's been weaving chair seats, baskets, rug since 1975. Self taught her innovative, contemporary baskets have taken numerous awards in regional juried art shows. I've been impressed by her work, I've seen her work but never really saw her work till editing this video. Mesmerized and stunned by the energy, focus, precision skills and attention to detail that goes even into a 'simple' cane chair. The same strengths that go into her art baskets. Her videos can be found on my channel and all in a play list easily found on my KZbin home page. Hope you will like, be kind in the comments and stop back for more of #TheWeaver here on potters journal.

80 is just a number and your mom is a spring chicken with a spring in her step. Really enjoyed watching her work. Beautiful chairs. Aloha to your mom and you.

This brought my childhood memories back. My grandparents had some beautiful cane arm chairs. Your mum is so skilled. Thank you for sharing this video was just amazing to watch her.

80!! WOW there really must be something in the water there. And I thought you needed patience to make pottery, I take my hat off to your mum, what a great job on the chairs.

How interesting! I've never seen that done start to finish. Few people do this anymore. How many pieces of furniture have wastefully ended up on the trash heap when a little patient doctoring restore them for another 100 years. I see you come by your craftsman skill and patience 'traditionally.' Very cool! Thanks for sharing with us!

Just please don't pick up any curb side chairs needing repaired for me to pass along to mom. People will pay to have their families chair repaired but don't often buy one otherwise.

Makes me wonder. Why did they leave it, to the very last chair. To then have them all repaired? So they had 5 chairs or more broken. What did people sit on? ha ha And now they want them urgently ha ha I know that feeling. Now watching .Wow since 1975 That's a long time in the trade. Love the dogs playing on the grass. WOW! Very nice job. Are you going to try as well?

If ya drill holes into the spline and squirt vinegar into them and allow them to soak about 15 minutes it will come out easy peasy.

Interesting sounds like you've done a chair and were lucky or 'easy peasy' would also describe making a pie and crust, something so few do today. Mom has done since the 70's 100's of gutter cane alone, no two alike, on top of that all the cane patters including maybe the first to creatively combined them, additionally real cattail rush, shaker tape, splints, inserted medalions..... Our videos are more lifestyle of the craftsmen than how-to, I try to touch on but don't always catch all parts of a project, her use of the vinegar and water are elaborated on at 3:21 in this video. Her method, she's developed a personal style, is to first remove what is easily removed and loosening what remains so when used the vinegar can gets to where the glue is. Caution is urged when drilling a clients rare antique or treasured family heirloom and it may not get vinegar to where the glue is. This is a precision work; I'll refer all to KZbins 'Sliver River Chairs' kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH3He6SEmJeDrrcsi=GaCVnGVd5KDeTGqc 'How to Remove Press Cain Seat' he covers many vital steps that cannot be missed, he also goes through the tedious part in fast motion and with cool fun music. Thanks, the drilling was interesting to hear about and research. She learned the hard way before the internet's tips and tricks. At 84 she's eighter too old to change or happy with the satisfaction of her clients.
