Some years back a film festival in Arkansas I helped organize presented this film...with the original synchronized score...with a full symphony orchestra playing it...with Fay Wray herself in attendance! It was the most exciting movie event I've ever had, a beautiful memory. She was a lovely lady so friendly and down home. Her reminisces of working with von Stroheim were fascinating. Quite a woman. Quite a film!

This film was originally released with a synchronized music and sound effects track. That superb score was composed by J.S. Zamecnik, and I much prefer it over the Carl Davis and Gaylord Carter (on the 1987 VHS release) scores. THE WEDDING MARCH is a masterpiece and I hope to see it released one day on DVD or Blu-ray, fully restored with the original synchronized track.

Your welcome, Robert. That's right - the film came out at the end of the silent era and Paramount decided to add a synchronized music and effects track on 78 rpm disks. As you say, the ideal way to present it would be with optional audio tracks.

Thank-you so much. The score does justice to von Stroheim's vision.

As a P.S. The only thing I have to critique about this film is that the mother and father would NOT be sleeping together but then again one must bow to dramatic license.

A great movie. And it has one of the most ironic endings in film history.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong or clarify me but if I am not mistaken this is about half of the original film. Von Stroheim, the director also, got carried away and the production costs went way over budget by the studio. Stroheim was fired and his long running film was chopped up with much footage on the cutting room floor. It is, more or less an 'abridged' version, not what Stroheim intended. Seems like, too, a large fire later destroyed many film stock among them footage from this film. Its a wonder this film survives given what its been through. This quality is probably the best that survives and we're lucky to still have it. Be thankful. We barely have it.

I'm glad you posted it here but I must say the picture quality is quite poor for a "restoration."

Why such a weak quality of video from a "new print"? Not worth watching.

Man do they smoke a lot in this movie. Every time Nicki is with his parents, they're all literally blowing smoke in each other's faces. It's comical to watch and I'm not sure why Stroheim allowed this other than his own heavy smoking habit. He's in the carriage with his new bride and he's blowing smoke all over everything during what should be a tender moment. It's highly distracting and an example of why Stroheim should never ever have cast himself as the romantic lead. He's just too cold and unbending a man to convey the vulnerability of a man torn between love and duty. Stroheim is all duty and selfishness in the film and clearly in real life.

Possibly it indicates decadence? The family has taken up the same hasty habits as the proletariat.
