Hi, I’m from India. Here’s some more insight on the Ambani wedding. - this is just pre-wedding events. The main event is happening months later. - the value is the groom’s NGO. It’s a wildlife sanctuary in the family’s hometown. They built out individual house “tents” for each of the guests.” - you should check out the groom’s mothers emerald necklace. It’s the size of my face, literally. And I have a big face. - but yes it was crazy, crazy crazy.

Just some context on Indian culture, the “pre-wedding” is actually the Sangeet. Which is typically the day of dancing and music before the wedding, it’s not just a fancy thing they chose to do to flex. It’s usually not done so far in advance because this would be the time to apply henna or apply turmeric onto the bride and groom, but with this large of an event they probably had to. The henna is for the wedding day itself, and usually the darker it is on the wedding day, the more auspicious. And the turmeric paste (also called haldi) is like skin care before the wedding to make the bride and groom shine brighter.

Also the dancing is usually the family doing dance performances. Some families even do a bride’s family vs groom’s family. Some families hire dance groups. But the mother doing a dance performance isn’t that random, I would even say it was the most normal part.

Last note, most Indian weddings are buffet style. So I’m assuming they would put notes on each food item so they know which is in each.

BTW as a medical professional. A coroner can tell by the way a certain part of the person's skin wears as to various types of garnets and such a person has worn on a regular basis. Not often is it really looked into unless looking for a specific cause of death or something. I’m a Kiwi in the UK on a spousal visa - should be looking at perm residency at the end of the year. Technically, along with birth & marriage certificates I can use either maiden or married name. My maiden name is on my passport & visa, married name on everything else. When my passport is up for renewal in 5 years or so, I’ll update them then 🥰 I usually just provide both certificates as proof of name & that covers any queries!
