I stayed up late on a school night specifically to hear this session, my first ever Wedding Present song and my first ever John Peel show, just because a girl I fancied said she liked them. Gedge would approve of that reasoning I think.

I’m not sure the Wedoes and reasoning were ever in the same room. Except after the fact. But yeah I loved them too.

David Gedge and Peter Solowka demonstrating why guitarists usually pick with their dominant hands and fret with their less developed hands. The pick-hand rhythms and speeds are incredible.

Thanks ever so much for posting this; a version that is, in my view, far superior to the one that later appeared on Bizzaro. Takes me back to Xmas '88, Peel's Festive 50 and all that. Thanks!
@andriejuslasys17615 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right...a friend used to record the festive 50 for me each year and i can remember long train journeys home listening to this as well as every other gem Peel's festive 50 used to throw up.

Peel's festive 50.. Great memories...even if the Bunnymen were always number 1

I have this on a tape somewhere. Remember dancing around the room like an idiot in ‘88. It’s always been one of my favourite songs/versions.

Just the best. My favourite song of all time. Headphones on and get lost in the noise with the melody emerging. Love it.

At the time I used to think I was the dude, playing punk bass in a couple of bands. Then one night listening to the radio I heard this. Completely changed my approach to music. Thanks Dave.

Oh my God! What a title in the NME (or was it MM?) "From Russia with love". And that in mind - nowadays Mar 2022 - that Peter Salewka (guitar) had a ukrainian background. History can be so cruel...

the bizarro version that followed this lost the edginess that this has. The lead guitar sadly gets lost in the background on that version.

I knew David a bit in the 2000s. One thing about him is that he is very keen on toilet hygeine and insists that you bleach the bowl after every use.
