i saw one body surfer.. I grew up on Balboa isl and body surfed the pinnesula durring the early 80s NINO it was all body surf at the wedge then... sometimes we couldnt even take out the new "Hand Gun"... I used a flip flop (they were sturdy back then) with my for and mid finger around the toe strap... the viper fin was new also and a good wave got you up on your hand paddle and the fins... and you hydroplane down thet 25 foot face....at mock speed! the compression at 35 seconds is the reason every dr that every looks into my ears says I have the smallest ear canal ... or worst case of surfers ear they have ever seen...

Surf photographer Clark Little has this one picture that was featured in National Geographic that he calls "Marlin". It's when the backwash collides with an oncoming wave and creates that slap that resembles a marlins fin. This is one of the largest "backwash, marlin fins" I've ever seen 0:31

Inflatable mattress... Before Tom Morey invented a pool-toy for his wife or girlfriend - they were fairly popular. By the late 1980's they were almost extinct. But check out films of George Greenough and some others - at places like Rincon, etc. The can work pretty well. The problem at Wedge is they lack a hard, sharp rail.... So on his big peak, he winds up going straight. You might be able to turn up some KZbin videos - if you type in inflatable mat surfing. They've been making a low-key comeback in recent years, so it might not all be old-school vintage stuff.

@tea motoyama its sand, you can see on his PoV vids, they do break pretty shallow though since this is a shorebreak. Not sure how shallow it is on the massive ones, but you can see some pretty big ones breaking onto the shore or occasional clips of people standing waist high in front of a fifteen foot face. Like the clip at 1:12 you can see he's falling onto pretty much sand. at 3:07 he's standing
@ManofWater9 жыл бұрын
