I remember this so vividly. Getting four days off school, outside of holidays, in a row at that time was absolutely unreal. I know this was hard and annoying for some people but I loved this.

I remember being homeless out in this, it was bloody awful. I was sat on a box wrapped in blankets with a umbrella over my head just constantly getting hit with super strong wind and snow, the fact I hadn't been able to sleep the last few nights and the cold meant I fell asleep where I was sat, and woke up when someone in a car threw a hot cup of coffee at me, I'd realised I was also just sat in the middle of this HUGE 🛆 triangle of snow- no one could see my sign, and I had to find my bag and stuff underneath all that white , people saw what the guy did to me and came out to help, brought me hot tea, and gave me enough money to get a warm hotel room for a few nights it meant the world to me I was in tears. I'll always remember that period, insanely cold!

This was an incredible event! It made the news because it was so widespread, here in the UK snow doesn’t hit very often and when it does it we usually don’t see a lot, this however brought several inches across a lot of the country. It also caused a red weather warning which rarely ever happens and it caused A MASSIVE traffic jam that went on for miles in Cornwall of all places. We are not over reacting, this was rightly a news worthy moment, it’ll be remembered as the Beast From The East for years to come

I know it makes us in the UK look bad and yes there is definitely some OTT reactions in this country to not much snow but the one problem we do have is that due to our positioning on the globe, we don't get the fine powdery snow that other countries that get lots of snow get, we get wet, icy slippery snow that is lethal and can't be snow blown off roads and runways because it's too wet and heavy.

It was the coldest I've ever experienced here in Gloucestershire, and it was a different type of snow to past year's like 2010, this time it was a very dry cold easily wind blown snow that would find it's way through the smallest of holes into buildings ect ect it was getting in under the tiles on roofing and I've never experienced that before.

@6:50 man says "luckily I'm in a 4x4..." but 4x4 and all-season tyres are not great for icy roads, many youtube videos showing 4x4s sliding and crashing because they're not fitted with *winter tyres* which are dedicated tyres for ice and snow. Studded winter tyres are best and non-studded winter tyres are made with a softer compound and a specific grip pattern that no normal tyres have. Drivers in the nordic countries fit winter tyres in November and keep driving with those until March at least.
@ApfelFlix

Only for such a short period? Here in the alps winter tires are usually used from October to April.
@ViveSemelBeneVivere
@ViveSemelBeneVivere Жыл бұрын
@@ApfelFlix yes those months by law but it also depends on weather so if ice arrives earlier then tyres go on. Also the terrain is not so mountainy like the Alps, only in northern Norway and Sweden are mountains but nothing like the Alps.

-8? It's colder each year in Australia. It seems media in every country like to be overly dramatic.

This was pretty bad, a fairly rare cold weather event for the UK. I live in Eastern England and was snowbound in my village for the best part of a week, which hasnt happened since the 1987 snowfall. The snowdrifts were massive. Due to us being an island and our global position were highly unlikely to see prolonged major cold weather so this was indeed notable.

That type weather is more than typical for people at that Latitude 52. London is higher Latitude than Ottawa Canada and the entire US (Except Alaska).

My mum, Brother and nephews were caught in this when they arrange mum to babysit them for a few hours while brother and his wife went out for dinner. They were caught in traffic for 4 hours which should have been a 15 minute car ride, and mum had to sleep round brothers house on the settee overnight.

I bicycle over the BC border to where snow is up to 65 feet deep from the prior winter. Snow 95 feet deep in 1998/99. The road ended 2012 with snow 14 feet deep across it. I'm not easily impressed by a bit of snow.
