I remember being homeless out in this, it was bloody awful. I was sat on a box wrapped in blankets with a umbrella over my head just constantly getting hit with super strong wind and snow, the fact I hadn't been able to sleep the last few nights and the cold meant I fell asleep where I was sat, and woke up when someone in a car threw a hot cup of coffee at me, I'd realised I was also just sat in the middle of this HUGE 🛆 triangle of snow- no one could see my sign, and I had to find my bag and stuff underneath all that white , people saw what the guy did to me and came out to help, brought me hot tea, and gave me enough money to get a warm hotel room for a few nights it meant the world to me I was in tears. I'll always remember that period, insanely cold!

This was an incredible event! It made the news because it was so widespread, here in the UK snow doesn’t hit very often and when it does it we usually don’t see a lot, this however brought several inches across a lot of the country. It also caused a red weather warning which rarely ever happens and it caused A MASSIVE traffic jam that went on for miles in Cornwall of all places. We are not over reacting, this was rightly a news worthy moment, it’ll be remembered as the Beast From The East for years to come

I know it makes us in the UK look bad and yes there is definitely some OTT reactions in this country to not much snow but the one problem we do have is that due to our positioning on the globe, we don't get the fine powdery snow that other countries that get lots of snow get, we get wet, icy slippery snow that is lethal and can't be snow blown off roads and runways because it's too wet and heavy.

@6:50 man says "luckily I'm in a 4x4..." but 4x4 and all-season tyres are not great for icy roads, many youtube videos showing 4x4s sliding and crashing because they're not fitted with *winter tyres* which are dedicated tyres for ice and snow. Studded winter tyres are best and non-studded winter tyres are made with a softer compound and a specific grip pattern that no normal tyres have. Drivers in the nordic countries fit winter tyres in November and keep driving with those until March at least.
