So excited for you, Philip! It's wonderful to see all that love for the Way of Edan and it was such a pleasure to read and review this book.😊 Making my way slowly through all those great Edan discussions and interviews. Looking very much forward to your next Earthsea discussion as I loved the previous ones and like for you Earthsea really has a special place for me. Also, curiosity got the better of me. I know I said I most likely will not read this but whenever I hear about it I'm quite intrigued by the themes especially of language and memory. So yes, I bought The Book of the New Sun. I have to admit that I'm aprehensive about the violence and the treatment of women, but we'll see how this will go. Might as well see for myself what all the fuss is about while I wait for the next installment in the Edan trilogy.😁

Thank you, Angela! While not everyone is going to love The Way of Edan, it's been very gratifying to hear from people who have connected with the book. Reading the Earthsea series feels like coming home -- I think only Tolkien can match the nostalgia I feel when reading Le Guin's beautiful prose. I hope you will find Book of the New Sun engaging -- it's been challenging for me in mostly good ways. All the best!

Just received my Paperback Copy of «The Way of Edan» yesterday! As I did not expected it before Easter, I am so thrilled and excited! As I commented on the Brothers Gwynne's review, no friend of Professor Chase should feel bad for reviewing your books, as you are a friend of all living creatures great and small! In February and March I finished reading Bernard Cornwell’s «Warlord Chronicle» Trilogy, as well as digital copies of Alfred Duggan's "Winter Quarters" (following two Gauls joining the Roman Army during the time of the First Triumvirate, before becoming captured at the Battle at Carrhae by the Parthians) and "In the Grip of the Minotaur" by Arthur G. Brodeur & Farnham Bishop (Bronze Age swashbuckling from 1916!), The «Warlord Chronicle» Trilogy has really put me in the mood for «realistic» King Arthur stories/Historical Novels set in Sub-Roman Britain, so I have just received my copies of Alfred Duggan’s Historical Novels «The Little Emperors» and «Conscience of the King», "Gurzil" by "I, Anonymous", the «Arthurian Age»-series by Sean Poage. So along with "WOE" and the two final books of the "Dandelion Dynasty" Series by Ken Liu ("The Veiled Throne" and "The Speaking Bones"), my TBR is set for the next months!

@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy Both book 1# («The Grace of Kings») and 2# («The Wall of Storms» of «DD» are 5 Star Reads for me. I believe both Patrik and Jake Bishop prefered «WoS» of the two: While I greatly enjoyed the World Expansion in «WoS» (the Lyucu makes the Dothraki look like decent Babysitters!), I just fell in love right away with the Main Characters Kuni and Mata in “GoK”: Pay attention to how Mata and his uncle view the new Empire in their first chapter and how Kuni views it his second: “chef’s kiss”! And their incredible and unexpected chemistry! And how Ken Liu does a “GGK” and manages to put a whole trilogy’s worth of dramatic material in ONE single book? Masterfully done: “GoK” is my favorite Fantasy Novel published in the last 10 years! Will do! Cheers Professor!

@@MacScarfield Wow! That’s high praise! I’m stoked to read it!
@MacScarfield
@MacScarfield Жыл бұрын
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy You should! While the main characters and much of the set up is clearly inspired by the start of the Qin and Han dynasties (something Liu has been open about despite being accused by some critics for being a “ripoff”) Liu has also stated that it is also an American fantasy, with characters and inventions in the vein of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. There are also topics such as Divine Intervention/Tinkering in the vein of “The Iliad”/“The Odyssey”/“Journey to the West”, colonization (US, British/Australian, Imperial Japan and the Sinofication of Modern Southern China) and the multiculturalism of the US as well as the Tang and Yuan (Mongol) dynasties. Another criticism I do not get is of the Portrayal of Women in “Grace of Kings”: I really do not understand this, I can’t believe those reviewers have read the same book, as the importance and advancement of women (not just individuals, but as a whole society) is soaked into the whole darn story!

You BookTubers thrill me to read more Hobb. I read Assassin’s Apprentice a few years ago but haven’t followed up. I’m curious if you have plans to read any of her work published as Margaret Lindholm; my best friend (and lots of other people I know) are huge advocates for her early novel, Wizard of the Pigeons. Fun tidbit about Earthsea - none of the books was written with plans for a sequel. Each one just kinda happened, which I think is part of why each novel is so thoroughly satisfying on its own :)(Actually, you probably already knew that, but I felt it was important to mention, still ;)

Yes, Le Guin mentions that lack of planning for a series in one of the mini-essays published along with the Earthsea books in the illustrated edition I'm reading. Liveship Traders brought my estimation of Hobb's writing up to the very top of the genre, and Tawny Man has been amazing. All the best, Paul!

I am so excited for you and I can't wait to read more since I loved the first book! If you are looking for early reviewers for the second installment I am more than willing ;) It is wonderful to see you enjoying this process and getting your talent out there!

Thank you so much, Mary! I am very happy to hear you enjoyed The Way of Edan, and I'm tremendously grateful for the kind feedback. It is really so gratifying to know it when someone connects with the story. Also, I appreciate your offer to be an early reader for book two. I've probably got too many people doing that for me already, but I will keep you in mind if it looks like more would be good. Cheers!

Thank you for helping me discover my love a fantasy and I love your book I was wondering how do you plan to release the last two books will it be in one year or one year or each?

Thank you for the kind words, Erick! Book two, The Prophet of Edan, will be out on June 21. Book three, Return to Edan, will be out on September 21. They are largely finished, but I need to do one final edit and format them for publication. Also, the covers need to be done. All the best!

@@erickmarrero4848 I’m not sure about the audiobooks. All I can say with certainty is that Allen, the narrator, is aiming to have book one done by the end of the summer. If it goes really well, perhaps we’ll see the other books this year, but I can’t say for sure. Cheers!

I meant to ask what our Way of Edan chat was like for you, and it was neat hearing how you were able to step outside the book (edit: maybe because an elf was in the chat?)! In addition to discussing our thoughts and experiences reading The Way of Edan, the discussion was also a fun celebration of you as our friend and what you accomplished. I also loved The Gallant chat with you, Janny, and P.L.! I laughed out loud when you said, “we’ve had our tea” when talking about Fool’s Fate 😂!

There is a fair amount of tea consumption in The Realm of the Elderlings. Being a fan of tea, I'm here for it! I've compared Hobb to writers like Jane Austen in the past because of her ability to explore human psychology and relationships between characters, and the tea is one facet of that. Our discussion on The Way of Edan is a strong contender for my favorite ever on BookTube -- thank you so much for so graciously organizing and hosting it, Johanna! I am so blessed in the friendships I have found here!

@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy Same here as far as that Way of Edan discussion being a strong contender for my favorite ever on BookTube! I've smiled and chuckled all week long thinking about it even if you did break my heart when answering my elf and song questions. I'm also very eager for book 2! Hooray for tea and cheers to you, Philip! ❤

@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy That's interesting, are you familiar with the Vedas or the Buddhist scriptures? Someone mentioned you worked some Buddhist ideas into your own book

@@jahanshah1538 I'm far from an expert, but I've read things like The Mahabharata and The Ramayan as well as some of the Vedas and Buddhist scriptures. They are definitely a big part behind the philosophy of my writing in my trilogy.
