Man I haven't saw fox get this excited about a race in a LOOONG time. Mike, Larry, and Darrell were elite in their prime, their call to the line gave me goosebumps.

This Era of racing was incredible! I remember watching this race and cheering for Edwards, all while adjusting the "rabbit ears" (my parents were too cheap to have cable) and yelling at the top of my lungs when my favorite driver won his first cup race by a few feet!

Crazy, how you remember where you was during certain races. I was in high school at a mother/son dance, so I missed the ending of the race, but i had a feeling he was going to win that afternoon. Every time I missed a race, either my favorite, or a first time winner/a surprise winner would win. Edward's did bring a certain amount of excitement to the sport unlike others.

Imagine if Carl drove for Hendrick back then. Burton departed there for the same reasons Mark, Matt, Greg, and Carl himself did over the next 10 years. Jack is impossible to work for, refuses to adapt and tells the drivers pretty much shut up and drive it. He was just lucky to have exceptional talent behind the wheel. Once it was left to Ricky and the Brain the lack of equipment showed quickly

Thanks for sharing! I remember watching this race when I was 9 - just shy of 10 - years old. Carl's photo-finish win at Atlanta was the start of an incredible career - he never won the Cup title, but he definitely should have at least once (if not multiple times). He is such a class act. NASCAR needs more drivers like Carl today.

Every single time I watch any clip of any race from pre 2008. It’s like. People. That’s what the stands are supposed to look like. Nascar. Make a single day ticket 20-30$ and make a weekend pass 100$ tops quit acting like your tickets are some limited thing that fans have to still wait on the phone hours to get. It’s obvious they’d rather take half the stands down and cover half of what seats remain with corporate banners. They could care less if fans show up hell the way the tv deal basic cable only bs is I swear nascar is content with as minimal amount of views as possible, just a little racing club for billionaires to piss money away in
@runrafarunthebestintheworld

Honestly though Current Atlanta looks better without all the extra stands though but I know why they stayed up for so long. They should remove more seats at Texas though.

Back when atlanta was amazing and back when nascar had the most badass cars. Cars today are 🗑 compared to the gen 4,5 and 6. Pretty sure edwards retired because he made his money, and the cars became way too easy to drive and was no longer fun to him. Wasn't happy in the direction nascar was going so he simply walked away and never looked back. If he didn't retire after the 2016 season the 550hp package would have made him quit the sport mid season.
