I’m Mexican-American, and people assume I’m racist just because I don’t agree with ILLEGAL immigration in the U.S. My parents and I migrated to the states legally and acclimated to the U.S. and the culture, values and traditions, and we all work damn hard in our careers and are functional members of society. At the end of the day, it’s about safer communities and preserving the country’s identity. It’s about filtering individuals/families through who genuinely want to migrate to our countries legally and assimilate to the cultures and be respectful of other people, not criminals who are bringing in gang crime, human trafficking, guns and drugs. That’s it. The media perpetuates many Americans as dumbass rednecks when in actuality, we are trying to preserve the American culture and just want safety. I’m recently married to a British northerner here and just moved to Manchester through a visa. I’m just having deja vu on what’s occurring here. What needs to be focused on is putting accountability on the government, not each other. It’s about putting pressure on the government on not only taking care of their natives/citizens, but also welcome those who are willing to immigrate to the country the legal and ethical way. It’s an extremely grey complex area, it’s not black and white. Media perpetuates hate and division, that is what is happening here.

There are so many sides here, which shows how complex the issue is. 1. There are people who came to pay their respects to the little girls who were stabbed. 2. There are people who welcome refugees, as they see them as people in need. 3. There are people who see refugees as a threat but aren't against legal immigration. These individuals seem to be more worried about the allocation of resources, but are also concerned about the safety of their families. 4. There are people who are against immigration from people of colour altogether but don't mind immigrants from Caucasian countries coming to the UK; these are scared of their race disappearing. I'm inclined to say these are the racists/fascists, especially if they think people of colour are beneath them, but I also understand the fear of getting "outnumbered," (?) I suppose. But the thing is, there is no way to stop the evolution of modern societies since we live in a globalised world. It can happen slowly if immigration is cut down, or rapidly, but change cannot be stopped. In 100 years, our society will be completely different from what it is now. We might be fitting againsts robots then. I hear people talking about migrants not integrating into British society. Most of the immigrants go to work, pay their taxes, don't claim benefits, respect their neighbours, and don't commit crimes. Isn't that enough integration? What people should be talking about is acceptance. Accept that someone from another culture/country/race can integrate into your society and adopt your culture while still keeping their own identity and values. If integration means someone should abandon everything they are just because they are living in another country, that's where the problems start. When people feel threatened and oppressed, they want to make themselves seen and heard as much as possible and not in the best ways. Tolerance and acceptance, that's my take-home message for anyone who can be bothered to read this comment.

I think it's mostly about resource allocation over social disparity. Although cultural disparity is threatening especially in the form of non secular governance. You're right about everything changing over time, but values and culture are separate from race as well although they can be intrinsically linked. Mostly i think the backlash is people who can't even care for their own shouldn't be allocating resources to larger groups until their own business affairs are in order. My reason for mentioning this is tolerance as a value is not really applicable. What ends up happening is that all societies in that area will be made poorer effectively absorbing the middle class. We've been watching this for a while for a variety of reasons.
