I remember waiting for this album to drop 5 years ago, I was on thanksgiving break during my first year of college. I had just watched Mania, which was the set of short music videos that previewed some songs off the album. Finally hearing the songs and seeing the video for Starboy was a magical time, and having the album with me once I left home again helped my homesickness. So when I hear these songs, it’s like I going back to that first year of college, listening to The Weeknd while rain hits my dorm room window, drawing pink crosses on my notebook.

I can relate to everything you just described. I was eagerly waiting for this project to be released, especially after seeing the visuals in MANIA. I will always remember coming home for Thanksgiving in 2016 (first year of college as well) and listening to this album for the first time in my bedroom. Once I went back to campus I would always listen to this album as I walked from my dorm to my classes, especially this song and True Colors. Thank you for sharing your experience :)

Hell of a music video released 5 years later. I mean wow, look at the story. A boy escaping an asylum to be with his girl is amazing. The Weeknd is always putting characters into his music, and that’s what I love about him. But a lot of the times he’s the character, all of his music represents the character.
