Some back story as to why this episode of Memento Mori is so important: Since 2013, and really up until this summer, Kiss Land was sort of "shunned" by Abel. When it dropped in 2013, it was NOT met with good criticism whatsoever. It was panned by critics, fans didn't like it because it wasn't the Trilogy sound (lol), and it actually caused him to go into a pretty big depressive slump as he said in an interview. The backlash from Kiss Land was so severe that he completely ignored it for 7 years, probably because it's his most personal piece of music and (I'm assuming) his favorite thing he's made personally... he never performed any songs live, never tweeted about (except on the 5 year ani but it was just merch), but slowly it started to become a fan favorite due to the intricate production that just wasn't appreciated in 2013. Fast forward to summer of 2020, and XO randomly gets Kiss Land trending, the album shoots up the charts, and Abel OUT OF NOWHERE starts showing a crazy amount of love on Twitter about how much he loves the album, and then boom we get this episode of Memento Mori filled with unreleased tracks. Late, but very very deserved love and praise. Kiss Land is hands down my favorite Weeknd album ever.
