I just recently learned that Abel gave songwriting credit to Elton John and Bernie Taupin, for a borrow from "Your Song" in this song. Took me a while to figure that out, I thought it was part of the music being sampled, but it's the lines "I hope you know that, I hope you know that".. borrows the same structure as the "I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind" from "Your Song". I read an article that Abel talked to Elton John at a post Oscar party and said he had a surprise for him on his new album.. and Elton loves The Weeknd's music.. that's so fucking cool! Just thought I'd mention in case you hadn't heard about that. Loved your reaction. :-D
