Watch the live performance of “Scared to live” on SNL, he uses amplitud vibrato. You can see it with clarity when he finishes the song.

Bro the weeknd does use a lot of vibrato, you gotta listen to his work on Trilogy, Kissland or the most recent After Hours.

Good video but I must remark that he uses vibrato in almost every note but more distinctly in the places you mentioned.

I’m also having a really tough time finding my own voice. I love The Weeknd (my favorite artist fyi) and others as well like Michael Jackson, trey songz, Daniel ceaser, Frank Ocean e.t.c. But when I sing along I feel as though I might be trying to force my voice to be something it’s not Any advice on how to find your own unique voice and how to master it?
@singingfromscratch_official5 жыл бұрын
"you're own voice" is a very subjective concept. But it can be summed up by saying 'whatever your voice sounds like when you are singing'. Otherwise you are emulating. And you can have more than one "voice". e.g. Tyler Joseph. The truth is, your voice is whatever you need it to be to sing what you want to sing and get the artistic communication of the song across to the audience. Don't tie yourself to another persons voice. That limits your. Yes, practice them so that you can sing like them and add that to your 'vocal tool box', but expound beyond that. Now, strain is simply 1. not enough air support, 2. not enough space for resonance in the throat and mouth voices, or 3. out of your range. 1 and 2 you can fix immediately by taking in more air and opening up more when going for the higher AND lower notes to allow the sound to resonate. 3 can be worked towards over time temporarily reaching for higher and lower notes out of your range while singing. But if someone's song is consistently out of your range, lower or raise the key into your range.

I just have to comment on this. You're not a bad singer but your ear is off. The Weeknd probably uses more vibrato than any modern singer & it's amplitude vibrato, almost to the point where he sounds like a billy goat (in a very pleasing way). But how can you not hear the vibrato, it's a ridiculous amount of vibrato on almost every note and especially his tail notes.

even on "Call Out My Name", he's using slower amplitude vibrato, it's buried in tons of reverb but easy to hear, esp on the live versions. lol the other YT vids on this topic make a point of how he uses tons of vibrato, I even have friends who don't like his voice because he "uses too much vibrato" - I don't know what you're hearing but have to 100% disagree kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHzCiZSna7xjeaM

I got a shoutout😭❤️ I’m honored sir🙏🏽 Any tips on how to get a similar vibrato to The Weeknd’s? Is it even achievable or is it something unique to him due to his physiology? If you have any videos that you or another youtuber has made could you point me in that direction? Also keep the great content up!! You’ll blow up soon I know you will, and once you do I’ll miss being able to communicate with you so easily😂

Hi John, thanks so much for the acknowledgment! The ability to create a fast and light pitch/amplitude vibrato is completely achievable with practice. And it is pretty easy to do actually. Well, the instructions are simple anyway. Start wide and slow and then make the range tighter and faster each time until you achieve your goal. What I mean by wide is this. With pitch vibrato, start with a wide variance in pitch from high to low and back to high with your target pitch in the middle. Do this up and down slowly like a fire engine siren but in your range. Then tighten the pitch to not so high and not so low from your target pitch and faster until its fast and tight like a car alarm sort of. With amplitude vibrato the same concept but with volume instead of pitch, get the idea?

At 3:11, how did you go that high yet have so much resonance? Are you manipulating your voice to sound very high or is that just how it sounds when you go into head voice? Whenever I sing that high I feel like I’m raising my larynx to emulate that “Weeknd” sound
@singingfromscratch_official4 жыл бұрын
Well the resonance is a combination of Nose and Mouth voice's with projection and control. I have a video on my channel here called Voice Lessons for Beginners - Resonance where I go over those 3 main voices. There actually is no such thing as a "head voice" because there is no resonance actually occurring in the head. It is meant to help visualize where to send the resonance. Actually happens in the nasal passages. You can't manipulate your voice. You can only make it high or low then manipulate the resonance.
